Delhi Waqf Board
Delhi Waqf Board is a state level statuary body under the Delhi Government under Wakf Act 1954. It exercises control over mosques, graveyards and religious waqfs. The primary function of Wakf Board is to insure its properties and revenue are appropriately managed and utilized. In the news In an RTI filed by Ajay Bose, it was revealed that Delhi Waqf Board had received over 100 crores in 7 years from Delhi Government as Grant in Aid. Amanatullah Khan
Amanatullah Khan is an Indian politician and is member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party and represents Okhla (Assembly constituency) of Delhi in the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. Khan is the elected chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board since November 2020. Early life Amanatullah Khan was born in Agwanpur village, Meerut district to Waliullah Khan. He attended the Jamia Millia Islamia but did not complete his degree. He is educated till twelfth grade, which he passed in 1992–93. He is married to Shafia Khan and has a son and a daughter. Political career Khan had unsuccessfully contested in the 2008 Delhi Legislative Assembly election and 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly election as a Lok Jan Shakti Party candidate. Waqf
A waqf ( ar, وَقْف; ), also known as hubous () or ''mortmain'' property is an inalienable charitable endowment under Islamic law. It typically involves donating a building, plot of land or other assets for Muslim religious or charitable purposes with no intention of reclaiming the assets. A charitable trust may hold the donated assets. The person making such dedication is known as a ''waqif'' (a donor). In Ottoman Turkish law, and later under the British Mandate of Palestine, a ''waqf'' was defined as usufruct state land (or property) from which the state revenues are assured to pious foundations. Although the ''waqf'' system depended on several hadiths and presented elements similar to practices from pre-Islamic cultures, it seems that the specific full-fledged Islamic legal form of endowment called ''waqf'' dates from the 9th century AD (see below).
