Delfshaven (Rotterdam Metro)
Delfshaven is an underground subway station in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, served by lines A, B, and C of the Rotterdam Metro. The station is part of the two station long extension of the East-West Line (or Caland line), and it opened on 25 April 1986. This extension connected the line's former terminus Coolhaven (Rotterdam Metro), Coolhaven with the new Marconiplein (Rotterdam Metro), Marconiplein station. In 2001, Delfshaven station was renovated. Since then, the walls of the station show traditional Delftware, Delft blue motives. Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram
Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram (RET; ) is the main public transport operator in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It started in 1905 when they took over the city tram lines from RTM (Rotterdamsche Tramweg Maatschappij). It currently operates 64 bus lines, 11 tram lines and five Rapid transit, metro/light rail lines in Rotterdam and the surrounding Municipalities in the Netherlands, municipalities. RET used to employ the National tariff system (Netherlands), national tariff system, like other local transport companies in the Netherlands. On 29 January 2009, fares on the metro switched to using an OV-chipkaart; bus and tram fares followed on 11 February 2010. Rotterdam Metro
The Rotterdam Metro () is a rapid transit system operated in Rotterdam, Netherlands and surrounding municipalities by RET. The first line, called ''Noord – Zuidlijn'' (North – South line) opened in 1968 and ran from Centraal Station to Zuidplein, crossing the river Nieuwe Maas in a tunnel. It was the first metro system to open in the Netherlands. At the time it was also one of the shortest metro lines in the world with a length of only . In 1982 a second line was opened, the ''Oost – Westlijn'' (East – West line), running between Capelsebrug and Coolhaven stations. In the late 1990s, the lines were named after two historic Rotterdam citizens, the Erasmus Line (North – South) after Desiderius Erasmus and the Caland Line (East – West) after Pieter Caland. The station, with one island platform, opened on 10 May 1982 as the western terminus of the East-West Line (also formerly called Calandlijn). Coolhaven was the terminus until 1986, when the line was extended to '' Marconiplein''. The station is named for the adjacent ''Coolhaven'' harbour basin. It also has images of Rotterdam along its platforms. At the end of 2006 the station was renovated. The walls now show pictures of Rotterdam and the pillars in the middle of the station were repainted. Marconiplein is an underground subway station in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, and is part of Rotterdam Metro lines A, B, and C. Delftware
Delftware or Delft pottery, also known as Delft Blue () or as delf, is a general term now used for Dutch tin-glazed earthenware, a form of faience. Most of it is blue and white pottery, and the city of Delft in the Netherlands was the major centre of production, but the term covers wares with other colours, and made elsewhere. It is also used for similar pottery, English delftware. Delftware is one of the types of tin-glazed pottery or faience in which a white glaze is applied, usually decorated with metal oxides, in particular the cobalt oxide that gives the usual blue, and can withstand high firing temperatures, allowing it to be applied under the glaze.
