Delaware Mountain Wind Farm
Delaware Mountain Wind Farm is a wind farm located in the Delaware Mountains of Culberson County, Texas. The farm consists of thirty-eight EWC Zond Z-48 750 kilowatt wind turbines that produce up to 28.5 megawatts of electricity. All electricity produced by the project is purchased by the Lower Colorado River Authority. The project was completed in 1999 by Orion Energy LLC and National Wind Power. Van Horn is a town in and the seat of Culberson County, Texas, United States. According to the 2010 census, Van Horn had a population of 2,063, down from 2,435 at the 2000 census. The 2020 census results detailed a decline in population to 1,941. Van Horn's official newspaper is ''The Van Horn Advocate''. Delaware Mountains
The Delaware Mountains are a mountain range in the U.S. state of Texas, spanning part of Culberson County. The highest point in the range is the Delaware Benchmark at an elevation of above sea level. The range extends south-southeast from Guadalupe Pass at the southern extent of the Guadalupe Mountains and Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The range is formed by horizontal layers of limestone, sandstone, and shale that were deposited 250 million years ago during the Permian that now encompass the Delaware Mountain Formation. The range is named for the Lenape, who are also known as the Delaware Indians. The Delaware Mountain Wind Energy Center is a 28.5 megawatt wind farm that was constructed on the northern portion of the range in 1999 and is operated by NextEra Energy Resources. Culberson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 2,188. The county seat is Van Horn.
