Francisco Newton João Vicente da Piedade Jaime Valfredo Rangel (13 February 1897 – 6 July 1959) was a Portuguese medical practitioner, director of ''Tipografia Rangel'' (Rangel Printing Press), president of the municipal council of Bardes (Mayor of Bardez) in Portuguese Goa and a delegate to the International Labour Organization for Portugal. Goans
Goans ( Romi Konkani: , ) is the demonym used to describe the people native to Goa, India, formerly part of Portuguese India (''Estado Português da Índia''). They form an ethno-linguistic group resulting from the assimilation of Indo-Aryan, Dravidian, Indo-Portuguese, Austro-Asiatic ethnic and/or linguistic ancestries. They speak different dialects of the Konkani language, collectively known as Goan Konkani. "Goanese", although sometimes used, is an incorrect term for Goans. Kuxttoba
Kuxttoba was a Goan who rebelled against the Portuguese rule. He was a member of the Salekar branch of the Rane family.Kamat, Pratima. 1999: 183. Information about his birth, the reason and the course of his rebellion and the manner of his end are vague. He did rebel as an individual against the rule of the Portuguese in Goa but he presented no concept for an independent Goa. Neither did the Ranes do so when they took to arms against the Portuguese Government in Goa, nor the Sipais (Sepoys) when they mutinied. Kuxttoba was shot dead on 13 June 1871. The official version is that Constâncio de Rosário e Miranda of the 4th Division ambushed and killed him. The popular version is that he was betrayed by his mistress Bulem in exchange for a bribe. Mando (music)
''Mando'' () is a musical form that evolved during the 19th and 20th centuries among the Goan Catholics. It represents a meeting point of local Goan (Goa was a part of Portugal at that point of time) and western musical traditions. The music has elements of both traditional Goan and western culture. The men wear formal coats while women wear Western dress. The dress worn during the ''Mando'' dance was of velvet or silk; red, blue, or green in colour; embroidered with gold (rarely with silver) threads. A white or blue shawl was worn. The socks had to be white and the slippers ornamented. This was all graced with a fan, which enhanced the lady's mood with a secret charm during the dance. Dulpod is a Goan dance song with quick rhythm and themes from everyday Goan life. The plural of ''dulpod'' in Konkani is ''dulpodam''. The dulpod is a folk song, anonymous, freely improvised, and sometimes lacking in thematic unity.
