Toronto Defiant was a Canadian professional Overwatch (video game)#Esports, ''Overwatch'' esports team based in Toronto, Canada. Founded in 2018 as an expansion team for the Overwatch League (OWL), Toronto began play in 2019 and was one of two OWL teams based in Canada (the other being Vancouver Titans). Following the termination of the Overwatch League, the Defiant played in the Overwatch Champions Series. ''The Sandpit Generals'' (also released as ''The Defiant'' and ''The Wild Pack'') is a 1971 drama film directed by Hall Bartlett. Its plot is based on the novel ''Captains of the Sands'' by Jorge Amado. Melodious soundtracks were written by Dorival Caymmi. The film was not popular in the United States due to its socialist context and was banned by Brazil's military regime for the same reason, but became an iconic film in the Soviet Union, where it took part in the 7th Moscow International Film Festival and, although did not win any prize, in a few years was widely distributed in movie theaters and was proclaimed "the best foreign film" by Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper in 1974. The Defiant is an American punk rock supergroup consisting of vocalist Dicky Barrett (the Mighty Mighty BossToneS), drummer Pete Parada (the Offspring), guitarist Greg Camp (Smash Mouth), bassist Johnny Rioux (Street Dogs), and guitarist Joey La Rocca (the Briggs). History Band formation The band began as the result of writing sessions between Barrett, Camp and Parada during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, following Parada's controversial departure from the Offspring in 2021 due to his refusal to be vaccinated against COVID-19; and Barrett's breakup with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in part due to his views on the COVID-19 vaccine. Defiant Theatre was a Chicago-based theatre company founded in 1993 by a group of students from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which included Nick Offerman. The eclectic troupe specialized in productions that emphasized inventive stagecraft, perverse and controversial topics, and skillful stage combat. While the company is highly regarded for original plays such as ''Action Movie: The Play'' and ''Godbaby'', Defiant Theatre received notable attention for productions of plays by Caryl Churchill, Alfred Jarry, Sarah Kane, and William Shakespeare.
