Deers is an unincorporated community southeast of Urbana in Champaign County, Illinois Illinois ( ) is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its largest metropolitan areas include the Chicago metropolitan area, and the Metro East section, of Greater St. Louis. Other smaller metropolitan areas include, Peoria and Roc ..., United States. There are only two houses in Deers. There is a sign on a utility pole reading "Deers: Pop – Few". A post office was established at Deers in 1887, and remained in operation until 1913. The community's name honors Thomas Deer, a local pioneer. Deers elevator (Section 6, Sidney Township) was built along the Wabash—Norfolk Southern railroad spur running between Urbana and Sidney 1881−1990, and was operated by Dryer and Burt Grain and Coal in 1913. Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) is a computerized database for United States Service members, military retirees, 100% VA Disabled Veterans, dependents, DoD active Contractors, and others worldwide who are entitled to Public Key Infrastructure and TRICARE eligibility. DEERS is used in the Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS). RAPIDS is United States Department of Defense system to issue the definitive credential within DoD for obtaining Common Access Card tokens in the DoD Public key infrastructure, PKI. Used together, these two systems are referred to as a DEERS/RAPIDS stations, available in 700 locations in the world. Deer or true deer are hoofed ruminant mammals forming the family Cervidae. The two main groups of deer are the Cervinae, including the muntjac, the elk (wapiti), the red deer, and the fallow deer; and the Capreolinae, including the reindeer (caribou), white-tailed deer, the roe deer, and the moose. Male deer of all species (except the water deer), as well as female reindeer, grow and shed new antlers each year. In this they differ from permanently horned antelope, which are part of a different family ( Bovidae) within the same order of even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla). Deers Den is an archaeological site at Kintore, Scotland in Aberdeenshire. The site has mesolithic remains, Iron Age artefacts and is a known Roman Camp. History The area includes evidence of settlement dating back to the Bronze Age, with at least seven roundhouses, likely to date from the Iron Age, up to the time of the Roman Empire. Subsequently, the area would have been used as a Roman marching camp, and has associations with the Severan invasion, ca 200 CE.Aberdeenshire Council: Recent Archaeological Work at Deers Den The marching camp would have been large enough for 10,000 troops to rest. Deer's Mill, Indiana
Deer's Mill is an unincorporated community in Ripley Township, Montgomery County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History Deer's Mill was built by Joel Deer in 1829. A year after arriving in Montgomery County, in 1829, Joel built the township's first grist and saw mill along the banks of Sugar Creek. It was called Deer's Mill, and that small corner of Montgomery County retains that name to this day. The original millhouse was of log construction with common stones, and primarily ground wheat and corn. In 1833, Joel platted a small village adjacent to the mill. It was at various times known as Deer's Mill, Deerfield, Deerford, and Bluff Mill. The community, however, never quite developed, and any remnants have long since vanished. Deer's Mill, however, did a thriving business, and in 1839, Joel replaced the original log structure with one made of frame construction.
