Deep Dream (album)
''Deep Dream'' is the second solo studio album by American rock musician Richard James Simpson, released in April 2019 by Rehlein Music. It contains 17 songs, most of them written by Simpson with three co-written by his former Teardrain bandmate, bassist Jill Emery, and one co-written by Dustin Boyer. Two songs feature members of Simpson's 1990s band Teardrain. Most of the tracks were produced by Simpson himself, with three produced by Paul Roessler, and one by Teardrain and Jack Waterson. The album features Don Bolles from the Germs, Dustin Boyer from the John Cale band, and Ygarr Ygarrist from Zolar X. It combines traditional songs with several short experimental pieces. Simpson was inspired by David Bowie's late 1970s albums ''Low'' and ''Heroes'', as well as the work of film composers Pino Donaggio, Fred Karlin, Michael Small, and Vangelis. Richard James Simpson
Richard James Simpson, formerly known as Richard James (born 1967), is an American singer and guitarist. He is a son of Renate Hoy, an actress born in Germany, and attorney Raymond C. Simpson. He grew up in the South Bay region of California and had an older brother Charles "Rock" Halsey who was a member of Rock Bottom & the Spys. As a teenager, Simpson was a member of Invisible Chains as a bass player. The band recorded one eponymous album but disbanded later on. In the 1990s, he fronted a band called Teardrain, which also featured Jill Emery and Mark Reback on bass and drums respectively. He released his debut solo album in 2017. It is called '' Sweet Birds of Youth'' and features eighteen songs. Among those playing on the album are Joey Burns (from Calexico) on cello, Theodore Welch on drums as well as Dustin Boyer, who co-produced the record and plays various instruments. Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou (, ; 29 March 1943 – 17 May 2022), known professionally as Vangelis ( ; , ), was a Greek musician, composer, and producer of electronic, progressive, ambient, and classical orchestral music. Michael Small
Michael Small (May 30, 1939 – November 24, 2003) was an American film score composer known for his scores to thriller movies such as ''Klute'', '' The Parallax View'', '' Marathon Man'', and '' The Star Chamber''. Personal life Small was born in New York City but grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey. His father, Jack Small, was an actor and later, the general manager of the Shubert Theater in New York City. Small did his undergraduate work at Williams College where he was graduated with a degree in English. He later studied for a year at Harvard University. Fred Karlin
Frederick James Karlin (June 16, 1936 – March 26, 2004) was an American composer of more than 130 scores for feature films and television movies. He also was an accomplished trumpeter adept at playing jazz, blues, classical, rock, and medieval music. Early life and education Karlin was born in Chicago, Illinois. He had a brother, Kenneth. Karlin began playing jazz trumpet in 1950. He studied jazz composition with William Russo and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College, graduating with honors. His ''String Quartet No. 2'' was his honors thesis. Career Following graduation from college, Karlin moved to New York City in 1958. He composed and arranged for various bands, including those of Benny Goodman, Harry James, and Chubby Jackson. Giuseppe "Pino" Donaggio (born 24 November 1941) is an Italian musician, singer, and composer of film and television scores. A classically-trained violinist, Donaggio is known for his collaborations with director Brian De Palma, and for his work in both European and American genre cinema. He has won two Italian Golden Globe Awards, and has been nominated for two David di Donatello, four Golden Ciak, two Nastro d'Argento, and a Saturn Award. ''Low'' is the eleventh studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released on 14 January 1977 through RCA Records. Zolar X is an American glam rock band founded in 1973. Zolar X became known in the Los Angeles club scene for dressing and acting like space-aliens. They spoke an 'alien language' of their own invention. They are referred to as "Los Angeles' first glam rock band" in the 1998 book ''Glam! Bowie, Bolan and the Glitter Rock Revolution'' by Barney Hoskyns. Paul Roessler
Paul Roessler (born August 27, 1958) is an American musician and record producer. Roessler was a prominent member of the L.A. punk scene during the late 1970s and 1980s. He played keyboards in bands such as The Screamers, Twisted Roots, 45 Grave, Nervous Gender, SAUPG, Geza X and the Mommymen, Mike Watt and the Secondmen, Nina Hagen and The Deadbeats. Roessler has also released solo recordings such as "Abominable," "Curator," "The Arc," "6/12," "Match Girl," The Turning of the Bright World,""Burnt Church The Opera" with Jeff Parker, and a four double album set "The Drug Years."
