Deep Creek Conservation Area
Deep Creek Conservation Area is an area of protected lands near Hastings, Florida in St. Johns County and Putnam County that is managed by the St. Johns River Water Management District. The park covers 5,374 acres and includes entrances at its north tract and a west tract. The area is on the east side of the St. Johns River off State Road 207. It is mostly floodplain swamp and also includes pine flatwoods. Wildlife in the area include deer, turkey, wading birds, and marsh birds. The area offers hiking, biking and paddlecraft opportunities, but does not have a boat launch. Hastings, Florida
Hastings is an unincorporated census-designated place and agricultural center in St. Johns County, Florida, United States, southwest of St. Augustine. It was formerly an incorporated town, but it was dissolved in 2018 after a vote by residents. The population was 1,262 at the 2020 census, up from 580 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Henry Morrison Flagler built tourist hotels at St. Augustine in the late 19th century, including the Ponce de León Hotel. He needed a local source of fresh vegetables for his guests, so he persuaded Thomas Horace Hastings, his cousin, to develop a farm. A small community evolved into a town, which was named for its founder in 1890. Hastings is known as the "Potato Capital of Florida" with of potato farms, but also produces cabbage, onions, eggplant and ornamental horticulture. Florida State Road 207
State Road 207 (SR 207) is a four-lane state highway in northeast Florida, extending from US 17 in East Palatka, Florida at the southwest end to US 1 in St. Augustine, Florida at the northeastern end. Route description State Road 207 begins at US 17 in East Palatka, and heads northeast through Putnam County, going through the community of Orange Mills. SR 207 then enters St. Johns County, passing through Hastings before intersecting SR 206 in Spuds. SR 207 continues northeast, passing through the communities of Armstrong, Elkton, and Vermont Heights before encountering an interchange with Interstate 95. From there, the road spends the rest of its journey approaching St. Augustine, slowly heading into the heart of the city, intersecting SR 312 before terminating at US 1. There are 175 state parks and 9 state trails in the U.S. state of Florida which encompass more than , providing recreational opportunities for both residents and tourists. Almost half of the state parks have an associated local 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, often styled, "Friends of State Park, Inc.".
