Dedicated Records
Dedicated was a British independent record label that released music between 1990 and 1998 by Spiritualized, Spacemen 3, Global Communication, Beth Orton (in the U.S.), Chapterhouse, Cranes and others. It was based in London and founded by Doug D'Arcy. Dedicated were bought by Arista Records who were in turn bought by Sony Music Entertainment. History Dedicated Records was founded by Doug D'Arcy after leaving Chrysalis Records where he had been managing director, later president and director of the Chrysalis Group. It was a joint venture with BMG group (and was eventually amalgamated into the main Group via Deconstruction Records). Dedicated Records signed Spacemen 3 from Fire Records (UK), who split up after signing, therefore Dedicated inherited offshoot band Spiritualized. Sony Music Entertainment (SME), also known as simply Sony Music, is an American multinational music company. The Family Cat
The Family Cat were a British independent band, formed in Stoke Newington, London in 1988. Three members were originally from Cornwall, one from Plymouth and one from Southampton. Career The band played live for five years and recorded three albums, the mini-album ''Tell 'Em We're Surfin, (produced by The Jam's drummer Rick Buckler) released on South London independent label Bad Girl Records, and its full-length follow-ups, ''Furthest from the Sun'' and ''Magic Happens'', released by Dedicated Records. The band never quite capitalised on the momentum generated by the success of debut single "Tom Verlaine", which was named 'Single of the Week' by the ''NME'', although the band's final LP, ''Magic Happens'' entered the lower reaches of the UK Albums Chart and "Airplane Gardens", lasted for one week in the UK Singles Chart. Comet (band)
Comet is an American indie rock band that was formed in 1993 in the Dallas, Texas suburb of Mesquite. Described as an enigmatic noise pop outfit brought together by a common love of the Beatles, the original lineup of singer/guitarist Jim Stone, his bassist-brother Neil Stone, guitarist Daniel Huffman, and percussionist Josh Garza entered the studio later that year to cut their debut single "Portrait," produced by Mercury Rev alum David Baker. A deal with the Arista subsidiary Dedicated label followed, they became label mates with Spiritualized, Beth Orton and the Cranes and with Baker again at the helm, Comet recorded their LP bow ''Chandelier Musings'', issued in late 1996. The band toured throughout much of 1995 and 1996 and into early 1997 when fallout from a tour-van accident led to the eventual break up of the original line-up. Butterfly Child
Butterfly Child were a Northern Irish group led by singer/songwriter Joe Cassidy, based in Chicago, Illinois. Described as "purveyors of shimmering, oceanic rock," they have released three full-length albums and numerous singles/EPs. Their latest album ''Futures'' was released by Dell'Orso Records on 27 November 2015. History Butterfly Child were formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1984. After playing shows throughout Ireland, Butterfly Child released their debut EP, ''Toothfairy'', on A.R. Kane's H.ark! label in 1991. Remarkable in its "frazzled, cracked fragility", the EP caught the ear of legendary BBC DJ John Peel, who invited the band to record their first Peel Session on 12 January 1992 at Maida Vale Studios. Balloon were an early 1990s music duo from London, consisting of Ian Bickerton and David Sheppard. Their first album, ''Gravity'', was released in 1992 by Dedicated Records, a British record label known for neo-psychedelia.Jenkins, Mark.Balloon Floating On Jazzy 'Gravity', The Washington Post, 26 June 1992, p. N16. Biography Bickerton and Sheppard met in 1988. They recorded more than 60 demo tracks before they were signed by Dedicated Records. 30 Amp Fuse was a pop-punk band from Knoxville, Tennessee active in the 1990s and 2000s made up of Mike Smithers, Rodney Cash, Mike Knott, and formerly Don Coffey Jr. and John Davis. Smithers attended Farragut High School in nearby Farragut, Tennessee and was in various bands in Knoxville, playing with Coffey and Davis before forming 30 Amp Fuse. Their first album, 1995's ''Wind-Up'', was on Darla Records with a lineup of Smithers, Davis and Coffey, Jr.; the latter two were also members of Knoxville band Superdrag who found success in the 1990s. Omnibus Press is a publisher of music-related books. It publishes around 30 new titles a year to add to a backlist of over 250 titles currently in print. History Omnibus Press was launched in 1972 as a general non-fiction publisher to complement the sheet music published and distributed by its parent company Music Sales Group. Music Sales had launched a separate company called Book Sales Ltd and the earliest Book Sales catalogue, issued in the early 70s, included compilations of underground comic strips, art and photography titles and one of the earliest books on the then newly discovered art of video. Fire Records is a British independent record label, run by James Nicholls, with offices in London, England and New York, USA. The label was founded by music journalist Johnny Waller and Clive Solomon in 1985 and released early records from Pulp, Teenage Fanclub (on subsidiary label Paperhouse), Spacemen 3 (formerly on Glass Records), Blue Aeroplanes, Lives of Angels and others. Deconstruction Records is a British record label founded in 1987 by Pete Hadfield and Keith Blackhurst, together with Mike Pickering of M People. According to ''DJ Magazine'' it is "best remembered for marrying underground credibility and diversity with an open-minded attitude towards pop". Artists It initially specialised in house anthems such as K Klass's "Rhythm Is a Mystery" and Bassheads' "Is There Anybody Out There?", as well as M People's output, but also had a record in promoting underground dance acts such as Dave Clarke. Chrysalis Group was a United Kingdom, UK media company that was founded by Chris Wright (Music), Chris Wright, chairman, and Terry Ellis (record producer), Terry Ellis. Wright was named in ''Sunday Times Rich List 2009'' of the 1,000 richest persons in the UK.
