Deckergasse
The Deckergasse is a narrow lane (German Language, German: -gasse), in the Meidling district of Vienna, Austria, stretching from the Assmayergasse in the west to the Längenfeldgasse in the east. It was named in 1909, when the area around it was being developed, in honour of the Viennese portrait artist Georg Decker (1818–1894). The official record published by Karl Lueger, List of mayors of Vienna, Mayor of Vienna, described him as "the outstanding Viennese painter (''hervorragenden Wiener Maler'')" and noted that the Deckergasse began near the end of Canalettogasse, named after Canaletto. Georg Decker
Georg Decker (7 December 1818 – 13 February 1894) was an Austro-Hungarian portrait artist. Decker was born in Hungary to a German-speaking family, and grew up and made his career in Vienna, where he taught painting as well as working as a portrait and historical artist. Thanks to his teaching, he was sometimes referred to as ''Herr Professor Georg Decker''. Meidling
Meidling () is the 12th district of Vienna (german: 12. Bezirk, Meidling). It is located just southwest of the central districts, south of the Wienfluss, west of the Gürtel belt, and east and southeast of Schönbrunn palace. Karl Lueger
Karl Lueger (; 24 October 1844 – 10 March 1910) was an Austrian politician, mayor of Vienna, and leader and founder of the Austrian Christian Social Party. He is credited with the transformation of the city of Vienna into a modern city. The populist and antisemitic politics of his Christian Social Party are sometimes viewed as a model for Adolf Hitler's Nazism. Life and early career Karl Lueger came from a modest background, born at Wieden (since 1850 the 4th district of Vienna) to Leopold Lueger of Neustadtl an der Donau and his wife Juliane. His birthplace is now the western part of the main building of the Vienna University of Technology at Karlsplatz where Lueger's father worked as an usher at the Vienna Polytechnic. Canaletto
Giovanni Antonio Canal (18 October 1697 – 19 April 1768), commonly known as Canaletto (), was an Italian painter from the Republic of Venice, considered an important member of the 18th-century Venetian school.
