Decimomannu
Decimomannu ( or ) is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari in the region of Sardinia in Italy, located about northwest of central Cagliari. It has 8,355 inhabitants. History Decimomannu's origins date back at least to Roman times, as attested by its Latin name, meaning "the biggest town located ten miles from Cagliari". Its earlier history was revealed when a necropolis from Phoenician-Punic times was found in 1879–80. It was the location of the battle of Decimomannu during the revolt of Hampsicora. After belonging to the Byzantine Empire, in the Middle Ages it became part of the Giudicato of Cagliari. Several ''giudici'' (from Latin ''iudice'', literally "judge") established their residences in Decimomannu. After the fall of the Giudicato of Cagliari, Decimomannu belonged to the Della Gherardesca family from Pisa. Battle Of Decimomannu
The Battle of Decimomannu, Battle of Cornus or Battle of Caralis was fought 215 BC on the island of Sardinia when a Carthaginian army sailed to the island to support a local revolt against Roman rule. The army, led by Hasdrubal the Bald, fought a similar size Roman army under the praetor Titus Manlius Torquatus in the Fall of 215 BC somewhere between Sestu and Decimomannu, just north of Caralis. The Romans destroyed the Carthaginian army and then scattered their fleet in a sea battle south of Sardinia. Strategic situation The Romans were hard pressed after the Battle of Cannae, with several South Italian cities deserting to Carthage. Hannibal Barca and his army were active in Campania, while a second Carthaginian army under Hanno, son of Bomilcar had become active in Bruttium. Hampsicora (died 215 BC) was a Sardo-Punic political leader and landowner of Sardinia, and the leader of the major anti-Roman revolt () in the province of 215 BC. The sources describe Hampsicora as the richest among the landowners of Sardinia, which at that time appeared to be split into two entities: the Carthaginian-dominated Southern and Western agricultural coastline, including the vast Campidano plain, and the more inland areas that maintained their independence and, while being eventually tolerant of the Carthaginians after many skirmishes, were nonetheless hostile to the Roman conquest. The Battle of Lucocisterna (or Lutocisterna) was fought on the 29 February 1324, during the Aragonese conquest of Sardinia, between the army of the Crown of Aragon, in command of the Infante Alfonso IV of Aragon, son of King James II of Aragon, and the army of the Republic of Pisa led by Manfredi della Gherardesca, Count of Donoratico.
