Debbie Whitmont
Debbie Whitmont is an Australian television journalist. In 1989 Whitmont began her work at ABC as a researcher. She then spent three years in commercial television, working for Channel 10. Whitmont then returned to ''Four Corners'' as a reporter, producer and later associate producer. From 1993 to 1996 Whitmont was a Middle East correspondent for ABC and filed reports from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Pakistan for ''Lateline ''Lateline'' was an Australian television news program which ran from 1990 until 2017. Four Corners (Australian TV Program)
''Four Corners'' is an Australian investigative journalism/current affairs documentary television program. Broadcast on ABC TV, it premiered on 19 August 1961 and is the longest-running Australian television program in history. The program is one of only five in Australia inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame. History ''Four Corners'' is based on the concept of British current affairs program ''Panorama''. The program addresses a single issue in depth each week, showing either a locally produced program or a relevant documentary from overseas. The program has won many awards for investigative journalism. Including 23 Logie Awards and 62 Walkley Awards. It has broken high-profile stories. A notable early example of this was the show's 1962 exposé on the appalling living conditions endured by many Aboriginal Australians living in rural New South Wales. ''Lateline'' was an Australian television news program which ran from 1990 until 2017. The program initially aired weeknights on ABC TV. In later years it was also broadcast internationally throughout Asia and the Pacific on the Australia Plus Satellite Network, and on the 24-hour ABC News Channel. The flagship current affairs program developed a longstanding reputation for setting the agenda of the following days' news across the continent. It was well known to feature head-to-head debates on current issues, hard hitting political interviews, and attracted the appearance of many world leaders in industry, politics and media. It was labelled by the influential Australian online website Crikey magazine as being, "an unmissable current affairs program that almost certainly creates more headlines in the next day's newspapers than any other TV show in the country."
