''Strange House'' is the debut studio album by English rock band the Horrors, released on 5 March 2007 by Loog Records. Content The band announced the title via a Myspace bulletin on 11 January 2007. The album subtitle, "Psychotic Sounds for Freaks and Weirdos", was created by a fan from the official Horrors forum. The album consists mostly of previously released material, although several of these tracks were re-recorded or remixed. Release ''Strange House'' was released on 5 March 2007 by Loog Records. It reached No. 37 in the UK Albums Chart. A special edition including a DVD in a gatefold digipak was also released, which contained three music videos ("Sheena Is a Parasite", " Count in Fives" and "Gloves"), three live performances (one full-length and two short sets), an interview and a photo gallery. The Horrors
The Horrors are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Southend-on-Sea in 2005 by lead vocalist Faris Badwan, guitarist Joshua Hayward, keyboardist and synthesizer player Tom Furse, bassist Rhys Webb, and drummer and percussionist Joe Spurgeon. Their music has been classified as garage rock, Garage punk (fusion genre), garage punk, gothic rock, shoegaze and post-punk revival. The band's current lineup includes all of the founding members bar Furse and Spurgeon, who have been inactive performing live since 2021 and 2024, respectively. In early October 2024, it was announced that the band were now joined by Amelia Kidd (of The Ninth Wave (band), the Ninth Wave) on keyboards and backing vocals, as well as Jordan Cook (of Telegram) on drums. "Count in Fives" is a song by English rock band the Horrors, released in October 2006 by Loog Records as a single from their debut album, ''Strange House''. Content The song is about vocalist Faris Badwan's childhood obsession with arranging things in groups of five. The B-side, "A Knife in Their Eye", featured lyrics written by Badwan set to music by the Monks. Music video The music video featured people using sign language to "act out" the music and lyrics of the song. A minor controversy erupted when it was discovered that part of the song (the intro and verse) was an uncredited replica of We the People's "My Brother, the Man". Sheena Is A Parasite
"Sheena Is a Parasite" is the debut single by English rock band the Horrors, released in April 2006 by Loog Records. Content The title and content are adapted from the Ramones single "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" as well as the Cramps' "Sheena's in a Goth Gang", and the song chronicles the demise of punk music and its cultural influence. The B-side is a cover of the Screaming Lord Sutch song "Jack the Ripper". Music video The Chris Cunningham-directed video starred Academy Award nominee Samantha Morton as the song's manic, transmogrifying subject who whipped around like a banshee and spewed her intestines at the camera. Sharply edited and shot on a low budget, the video was instantly banned from MTV UK purely on the basis of the use of strobe lights, not because of the gory subject matter (as was erroneously reported by ''NME'').
