Dearly Precious Stakes
The Dearly Precious Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in mid February at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York. Open to three-year-old fillies, the non-graded stakes is contested on dirt over a distance of six furlongs. The race is named in honor of Dearly Precious, the 1975 American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly who was in the hunt for another Championship at age three when she suffered a career-ending injury on July 11, 1976 while winning the Dark Mirage Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. Aqueduct Racetrack
Aqueduct Racetrack is a Thoroughbred horse racing facility and casino in the South Ozone Park and Jamaica neighborhoods of Queens, New York City, United States. Aqueduct is the only racetrack located within New York City limits. Its racing meets are usually from late October/early November through April. The racetrack is located adjacent to a casino called Resorts World New York City. The track itself has three courses. The main track (dirt) has a circumference of . Inside of the main track are two courses: the Main Turf Course, and the Inner Turf Course measuring . The track has seating capacity of 17,000 and total capacity of 40,000. The facility houses the headquarters of the New York Racing Association (NYRA). Alan Garcia (born October 2, 1985) is a Peruvian thoroughbred horse racing jockey. Kiaran P. McLaughlin (born November 15, 1960, in Lexington, Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer best known for training 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor. Background McLaughlin was born in an area of the country where horse racing and breeding is preeminent. One of his childhood friends was the son of trainer James Burchell and his first job was as a hotwalker. He was a student at the University of Kentucky for a year before he decided focus on pursuing a career in the Thoroughbred horse racing industry. He spent close to three years as an assistant for various trainers before going to work for U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer, D. Wayne Lukas in 1985. In 1992 he became the agent for jockey Chris Antley, a job he held until November 1993 when he signed on as the trainer for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai.
