Dean Murray (basketball)
Dean Murray (born June 6, 1964) is an American professional basketball coach. He is currently an assistant coach with MBB Basketball of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Murray has coached several professional teams in Europe, Asia and Africa. Playing career Murray played college basketball for Appalachian State Mountaineers men's basketball team from 1985 to 1987, in a total of seven games over two seasons. Coaching career Murray's professional coaching career started in 2001 with the Charleston Lowgators of the NBA D-League. Murray was the head coach of the Saitama Broncos in the Japanese Bj League in 2011. Murray coached Al-Muharraq SC in Bahrain in 2019. In February 2020, he signed in Rwanda as coach of Patriots BBC, which play in the first Basketball Africa League (BAL) season. He parted ways with the team in March 2021. The was a professional basketball league in Japan that began in November 2005 as a six-team league. The league was operated as a competitor to the established Japan Super League which was run by the Japan Basketball Association, the official governing body of basketball in Japan. The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is the premier men's basketball league in Africa. Founded in 2019, the league was established and is co-organized by NBA Africa and the FIBA, International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Each season typically runs from March to June, and in the current format of the league consists of twelve teams. Each of the teams qualify through their performance in their domestic competition. Seven teams qualify directly, while five others have to play in the Road to BAL. The group stage is divided into three conferences, which are followed by playoffs to determine the champions. Made by Ball Blue Soldiers, commonly known as MBB or MBB Blue Soldiers, is a South African basketball team based in Johannesburg. The team plays in the Basketball National League (BNL), the highest level of basketball in the country, following their promotion in 2024. They have won one National Championship title in 2024.
