Dead Famous People are a New Zealand indie pop band formed in Auckland, active from the latter half of the 1980s onward. Dead Famous People are still active today, Savage using various collaborators, with a new album being recorded in Auckland New Zealand, following an extended break taken to raise her son, Harry. "Looking at Girls" their first single on Fire Records (UK), was released on 24 October 2019. Their second single "Groovy Girl" was released on 12 February 2020, also on Fire Records. The ten-track album "Harry" was released on 9 October 2020 on Fire records. Their new album "Ballet boy" was released on May 29, 2023, recorded in Auckland, New Zealand It features 10 new tracks. The Chills
The Chills are a New Zealand indie rock band that formed in Dunedin in 1980. The band were fronted by founding mainstay singer-songwriter, guitarist Martin Phillipps (singer), Martin Phillipps (2 July 1963 – 28 July 2024). During the mid-1990s they were billed as Martin Phillipps & the Chills. Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. ''In Love With These Times'' is a compilation of previously released songs by artists on New Zealand based Flying Nun Records. It was released by Flying Nun in 1990 and re-released in a 2CD package with the 1991 compilation '' Pink Flying Saucers Over the Southern Alps''. The CD version released by Flying Nun Europe contained an additional six tracks which were omitted from the re-release. The title ''In Love With These Times'' was later used by Flying Nun's founder, Roger Shepherd, as the title of his 2016 autobiography. The flexi disc (also known as a phonosheet, Sonosheet or Soundsheet, a trademark) is a Gramophone record, phonograph record made of a thin, flexible Polyvinyl chloride, vinyl sheet with a molded-in spiral Phonograph pickup, stylus groove, and is designed to be playable on a normal phonograph turntable. Flexible records were commercially introduced as the Eva-tone Soundsheet in 1962. They were very popular among children and teenagers and mass-produced by the state publisher in the Soviet Union, Soviet government. The album features Cohen's songs interpreted by some of the most respected rock acts of the time. Its name is a play on the title of Cohen's album '' I'm Your Man''. For the album's American release on Atlantic Records, R.E.M.'s rendition of " First We Take Manhattan" and House of Love's " Who by Fire" (the lead tracks on each side of the vinyl and cassette versions) were swapped so that R.E.M., one of the most popular American rock bands of the era, led the album. ''Submarine Bells'' is an album by New Zealand group the Chills, released in 1990. This was the band's first album on a major label, as Martin Phillipps signed to Warner Bros. Records subsidiary Slash Records, to release the album in the U.S. The album reached #1 on the New Zealand album charts and had significant support from American college radio. The album was awarded gold status in New Zealand and represents the peak of the Chills' popularity at home. It is considered to be one of the defining albums of the Dunedin sound. The supporting tour for ''Submarine Bells'' culminated in a triumphant home-coming concert in Dunedin Town Hall.
