Dead Ends
Dead Ends is a punk band from the Philippines that came out during the Philippine punk movement in the mid-80s. Dead Ends released a total of four full-length independently produced underground punk albums in the band's lifetime from 1985-1996 as well as a fifth special edition greatest hits album in 2003. History Al Dimalanta and half-brother Jay Dimalanta formed Dead Ends in 1985 with drummer Rouen Pascual. The band became part of the 80s Philippine punk scene which included other bands like Urban Bandits, the Wuds, Private Stock, Betrayed, G.I. and the Idiots and a host of other bands. Dead Ends had several line-up changes but brothers Al (on vocals and guitar) and Jay (on bass) remained as the nucleus of the band through the years. Hardcore Punk
Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant hippie cultural climate of the time. It was also inspired by Washington D.C. and New York punk rock and early proto-punk. Hardcore punk generally disavows commercialism, the established music industry and "anything similar to the characteristics of mainstream rock" and often addresses social and political topics with "confrontational, politically-charged lyrics." Throw (band)
Throw is a four-piece hardcore punk band from the Philippines. History The band was formed by Al Dimalanta (the leader and co-founder of the 1980s Philippine punk band Dead Ends) in the year 2000 with Dennis Maniego on bass, Ojie Arcega on drums and Bimboi San Pedro on guitar. This is generally considered the official start of the band despite earlier attempts by Al to form a band with the same name. Throw went on to record its first independently produced album one year later (2001), a self-titled hardcore release (''THROW'') that marked the official return of Dimalanta to the local punk scene. Sometime in 2006, Ojie Arcega and Bimboi San Pedro left the Philippines to work in Singapore. This left Al and Dennis without a drummer and guitar player. Radioactive Sago Project
Radioactive Sago Project is a Filipino jazz rock band formed in 1999 in Quezon City, Philippines. The band's sound is a fusion of spoken-word poetry, bebop jazz, and punk. Subjects in their material range from politics, drugs, alcohol, random musings and current issues. Fronted by award-winning poet Lourd de Veyra, the band has released four albums. The first, a self-titled album, was released under Viva Records in 2000. This was followed by ''Urban Gulaman'' in 2004 and ''Tangina Mo Andaming Nagugutom sa Mundo Fashionista Ka Pa Rin'' in 2007 and ''Ang Itlog at ang Demonyo'' in 2014, all under Terno recordings. Al Dimalanta (born Alfred Martin Alcantara Dimalanta) is a Filipino musician, writer, public relations practitioner, photographer, visual artist, and professor. He is best known as the leader, co-founder and chief songwriter of the Philippine punk band Dead Ends (1985-1996) and the leader and chief songwriter of punk-hardcore band Throw 000–2019 considered one of the most important bands in the contemporary Philippine punk scene. Lourd De Veyra
Lourd Ernest Hanopol de Veyra (; born February 11, 1975) is a Filipino musician, emcee, poet, journalist, TV host, broadcast personality and activist who became famous as the vocalist of the Manila-based jazz rock band Radioactive Sago Project. Life and career Education De Veyra went to Quirino Elementary School for grade school and to Colegio de San Juan de Letran for high school. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Santo Tomas. Punk Movement
The punk subculture includes a diverse and widely known array of ideologies, fashion, and other forms of expression, visual art, dance, literature, and film. Largely characterised by anti-establishment views, the promotion of individual freedom, and the DIY ethics, the culture originated from punk rock. Throwing is an action which consists in accelerating a projectile and then releasing it so that it follows a ballistic trajectory, usually with the aim of impacting a remote target.
