Dead Boats Disposal Society
The Dead Boats Disposal Society (DBDS) is a non-profit society dedicated to the removal and disposal of abandoned boats and marine debris from shorelines in British Columbia, Canada. The Victoria-based Society has hauled 124 boats out of the water since 2017, most from bays and inlets in the Capital Regional District from Sooke to the Gulf Islands. By February 2020, the group had removed 89,300 metric tonnes of marine debris. Issue The problem of derelict boats is widespread along the British Columbia coast since, before July 2019 when the ''Wrecked, Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act'' came into effect, it was not illegal to abandon a boat along Canada's coastline. With the ''Act'', the government of Canada gained enforcement powers to impose penalties on individuals of up to $50,000, and to remove problem vessels if they are a hazard to safety or a threat to the marine environment. The Capital Regional District (CRD) is a local government administrative district encompassing the southern tip of Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Saanich Inlet
Saanich Inlet (also Saanich Arm) is a body of salt water that lies between the Saanich Peninsula and the Malahat highlands of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Fred J. Haynes (born ) is a British-Canadian politician. He served as the mayor of Saanich, British Columbia from 2018 until 2022. Prior to being elected, Haynes was a high school teacher, university instructor, business networking tool publisher and business and economic development consultant. Cadboro Bay
Cadboro Bay is a bay near the southern tip of Vancouver Island and its adjacent neighbourhood in the municipalities of Saanich and Oak Bay in Greater Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Cadboro Bay was the site of Sungayka, a village of the Songhees Nation for some 8,000 years prior to the relocation of its people to Victoria's Inner Harbour in the mid 1800s.
