''De Vermis Mysteriis'' is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band High on Fire. Cover art was done by tattoo artist Tim Lehii. Theme According to frontman Matt Pike, The album's title (translation: "The Mysteries of the Worm,") is a nod to a fictional grimoire conceived by the late, great ''Psycho'' author Robert Bloch in 1935 and later incorporated into horror master H.P. Lovecraft's renowned Cthulhu Mythos. "It's a concept record, a little bit," Pike offers. "I got this idea about Jesus Christ and the Immaculate Conception: What if Jesus had a twin who died at birth to give Jesus his life? And then what if the twin became a time traveler right then? He lives his life only going forward until he finds this scroll from an ancient Chinese alchemist who derived a serum out of the black lotus—which is actually in Robert E. High On Fire
High on Fire is an American heavy metal band from Oakland, California, that was formed in 1998. Matt Pike, the band's frontman and founder, also plays guitar for Sleep. High on Fire won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance with their song "Electric Messiah". The band has released nine studio albums, with their newest, '' Cometh the Storm'', released in 2024. History High on Fire was founded in the late summer of 1998 by Sleep guitarist Matt Pike, drummer Des Kensel, and bassist George Rice. Rice, who had previously played in Dear Deceased, originally auditioned to be the band's vocalist. In 1999, High on Fire recorded a three-song EP, which was released on 12th Records. ''Quantum Leap'' is an American science fiction television series, created by Donald P. Bellisario, that aired on NBC for five seasons, from March 26, 1989, to May 5, 1993. The series stars Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett, a physicist who, believing he has invented a way to travel through time, voluntarily subjects himself to an experiment that he believes will prove the validity of his controversial theories. Sam “leaps” into the fluid of spacetime and apparently disappears forever. Matthew Lance Pike (born June 3, 1972) is an American musician best known as the guitarist of stoner metal, stoner/doom metal band Sleep (band), Sleep and the vocalist and guitarist of High on Fire. With High on Fire, Pike won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for the song "Electric Messiah". Early life Pike was born in Southfield, Michigan. He moved to California after spending time in military school while living with his mother in Golden, Colorado. Arriving in San Jose, California, San Jose, he realized the hardcore punk and Heavy metal music, heavy metal scenes were more active than the ones in Colorado. He made friends, attended shows, and eventually joined the sludge metal band Asbestosdeath. When playing around the Bay Area they developed a much heavier and slower sound more akin to doom metal.
