De Leon, Texas
De Leon ( ) is a city located in Comanche County, Texas, Comanche County in the U.S. state of Texas. Its population was 2,258 in the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. It is commonly associated with being named after the Spanish explorer Ponce de León, but the town is actually named for its location on the Leon River (''de León'' in Spanish), which flows directly north and east of the community, and drains into nearby Proctor Lake. Texas Central
Texas Central or Texas Central Partners, LLC, is a private company that is proposing to build a high-speed rail line between Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston. It plans to use technology based on that used by the Central Japan Railway Company and trains based on the N700S Series Shinkansen. The proposed route would take 90 minutes. On April 11, 2024, the governments of the United States and Japan signaled support for the project after their leaders met in Washington. Amtrak took over planning of the project from Texas Central, with estimates that the project would cost more than $30 billion and if successful could start service in the early 2030s. With the withdrawal of a federal grant, Amtrak ended their involvement in the project in April 2025. The Fort Worth and Western Railroad is a Class III short-line railroad headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. Dublin is a city located in southwestern Erath County in Central Texas, United States. Its population was 3,359 at the 2020 census, down from 3,654 at the 2010 census. The town is the former home of the world's oldest Dr Pepper bottling plant (see Dublin Dr Pepper). The plant was for many years the only U.S. source for Dr Pepper made with real cane sugar (from Texas-based Imperial Sugar), instead of less expensive high-fructose corn syrup. Contractual requirements limited the plant's distribution range to a radius of Dublin, an area encompassing Stephenville, Tolar, Comanche, and Hico. The Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) is an American nonprofit educational and research organization dedicated to documenting the history of Texas. It was founded in Austin, Texas, United States, on March 2, 1897. In November 2008, the TSHA moved its offices from Austin to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In 2015, the offices were relocated again to the University of Texas at Austin. History On February 13, 1897, ten persons convened to discuss the creation of a nonprofit to promote Texas state history. Cross Plains is a town in Callahan County, Texas, United States. The population was 899 at the 2020 census, down from 982 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Cross Plains was once named "Turkey Creek", after the stream that now crosses the town's Treadaway Park. In its early years, Cross Plains had the basic necessities like a store, a cotton gin and gristmill, but little else. Hugh Henry McDermett and J.C. McDermett, early settlers here, petitioned the federal government to establish a post office in Cross Plains. In 1878, the government granted the post office, named "Cross Plains" for the crossings of stagecoach and military roads prior to the Civil War.
