Thiry De Bry
Thiry de Bry (1495–1590), son of Thiry de Bry the elder and father of Theodor de Bry, was a goldsmith in 16th-century Liège. He made a number of chalices and reliquaries that were still extant in the 18th and 19th centuries. A. Theodor De Bry
Theodor de Bry (also Theodorus de Bry) (152827 March 1598) was an engraver, goldsmith, editor and publisher, famous for his depictions of early European expeditions to the Americas. The Spanish Inquisition forced de Bry , a Protestant, to flee his native, Spanish-controlled Southern Netherlands. He moved around Europe, starting from his birth on the city of Liège in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, then to Strasbourg, Antwerp, London and Frankfurt, where he settled. De Bry created a large number of engraved illustrations for his books. Most of his books were based on first-hand observations by explorers, even if De Bry himself, acting as a recorder of information, never visited the Americas. To modern eyes, many of the illustrations seem formal but detailed. Johann Theodor De Bry
Johann Theodor de Bry (1561 – 31 January 1623) was an engraver and publisher. Biography De Bry was born in Strasbourg, the elder son and pupil of Dirk de Bry. He greatly assisted his father in works such as, the ''Florilegium novum'', which was published at Frankfort in 1612, and, with the assistance of his brother Johannes Israel, he completed the two volumes of Boissard's 'Romanae urbis Topographia et Antiquitates,' which were left unfinished at his father's death. He also published 'Emblemata secularia,' 1596, and added considerably to the collection of Portraits of Illustrious Persons, begun by his father. His pupil was Frederik van Hulsen. He died at Frankfort in 1623. His prints are signed with the initials J. T. B. or a monogram. Lucas Jennis
Lucas Jennis (1590–1630) was a German engraver. He was the leading publisher of alchemical works of his time. Life Jennis was born to Lucas Jennis the Elder in Frankfurt. His father was a wealthy goldsmith, jeweller, and engraver who had fled persecution in Brussels. Jennis’ father died in 1606. A year later, Johann Israel de Bry (1565–1609) married Jennis’ widowed mother. Jennis was now a member of the de Bry family, who were famous for their engraving work. Johann Theodor de Bry (1561–1623) was his step uncle. Works Jennis’ publishing career began around 1616. Jean Debry
Jean-Antoine-Joseph de Bry, also spelled Debry (; 25 November 1760 – 6 January 1834), was a French politician of the French Revolution. He served as President of the National Convention (21 March 1793 – 4 April 1793), and is famous for the slogan '' La patrie est en danger'' (The Fatherland is in danger) he proposed. Early life Debry was born on 25 November 1760 in Vervins, in the province of Picardy. He became a lawyer at the Parliament of Paris in January 1784, and was appointed administrator of the royal jurisdictions in Vervins in March 1786. In the following years, Debry published multiple writings supporting the ideas of the Enlightenment. Revolution With the Revolution he was appointed administrator of the department of Aisne in June 1790. He was elected in September 1791 as deputy of the Legislative Assembly for Aisne.
