Dcypha Productions
Dcypha Productions (sometimes credited as Dcypha Records or simply just Dcypha) is a UK-based production group founded by Sway and established under Akon's Konvict Records. Background Sway established Dcypha Productions, in 2004, to enable him to release his mixtapes and debut solo album This Is My Demo. The first members of Dcypha Productions were Sway, Bigz and Pyrelli. Soon after Sway appointed DJ/Producer DJ Turkish and producer Shux to Dcypha Productions. Shux and Sway produced most of This Is My Demo which was critically received and reached the UK Top 100 and had two Top 50 Singles. Sway‘s second album The Signature LP was released in 2008 which was released under Akon’s Konvict Muzik. Sway (British Musician)
Derek Andrew Safo (born 5 September 1982), better known by his stage name Sway or Sway DaSafo, is a British rapper of Ghanaian descent. He is also a producer, having established Dcypha Productions, signed to Island/Universal (label founder). Safo's 2008 track "Black Stars" gave appreciation to popular Ghanaians across the diaspora. Louis Gibzen (born Louis Gibson Hurndall), is a British hip-hop/electro record producer of Barbadian descent. He was raised in Middleton, Greater Manchester, and is known as a promising upcoming producer throughout the UK. He produced the record "Stay with Me" for Ironik's debut album. The record hit No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart whilst Gibzen was just 16. Since then, he has worked with various UK artists such as Sway, Chipmunk, Loick Essien, Wiley and on Wretch 32's upcoming album. ''The Signature LP'' is the second studio album by British rapper Sway DaSafo, released on 5 October 2008. Most of the album was produced by Sway with his Dcypha Productions team; other producers included Louis Gibzen, Guy Katsav and Akon. Background Plans for Sway's second album were made from the outset of his career. It was originally planned to be called ''This Is My Album'', continuing with the ''This Is My...'' series which Sway had used for the titles of his first mixtapes and debut album. Konvict Kulture is a record label founded by R&B singer Akon, Melvin Brown (music manager), Melvin Brown and Bu Thiam in 2003 under the name Konvict Muzik. Artists including T-Pain, Kat DeLuna, Mali Music (singer), Mali Music, Red Café, Dolla (rapper), Dolla, Ya Boy, and Costa Titch have signed to and released singles or albums by the label. ''This Is My Demo'' is the debut album from British rapper Sway. It was released on 5 February 2006 and produced by Sway for Dcypha Productions. It consists mainly of R&B and British hip hop. The album was critically well received and spent two weeks on the chart, with a peak of number 78. Mixtapes
In the modern music industry, a mixtape is a musical project, typically with looser constraints than that of an album or extended play. Unlike the traditional album or extended play, mixtapes are labeled as laid-back projects that allow artists more creative freedom and less commercial pressure. The term has significantly increased in popularity over the years due to high-profile artists marketing their projects as such. Prior to the decline of physical media, mixtapes were defined as homemade compilations of music played through a cassette tape, CD, or digital playlist and became significant in hip-hop culture. The songs were typically beatmatched and consisted of seamless transitions at their beginnings and endings with fades or abrupt edits. It was then defined as relatively any musical project by an up-and-coming artist. Now, mixtapes have become a label of promotion and marketing for album-like projects.
