Daya (Sikhism)
( or , pronunciation: , meaning compassion) is a fundamental teaching of the Sikh religion and teachings. The other four fundamental qualities are ''truth'' (), ''contentment'' (), ''humility'' () and ''love'' (). These five qualities are essential to a Sikh and it is their duty to meditate and recite the ''Gurbani'' so that these virtues become a part of their mind. The importance of can be seen from the following Shabad (hymn), Shabads from Guru Granth Sahib: says to not ignore tragedies that take place in the world but to face them head-on and do whatever is possible within one's means. Ambassador Lieutenant-Colonel Baba Daya Singh Bedi (1899–1975) was an Indian diplomat, Civil Servant and a Cavalry officer in the British Indian Army with the 6th Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers (Watson's Horse). Daya Pawar or Dagdu Maruti Pawar (1935–20 September 1996) was an Indian Marathi language author and poet known for his contributions to Dalit literature that dealt with the atrocities experienced by the Dalits or untouchables under the Hindu caste system. He was a Buddhist by religion. Early life Daya Pawar (pen name of Dagadu Maroti Pawar) was born in 1935 in Dhamangaon, a village in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra. He spent his early years in Kawakhana, near Bombay’s Kamathipura area. His father worked as a dock laborer, while his mother was employed as a manual scavenger. The assassination of Daya Pathirana took place on 15 December 1986. Daya Pathirana was the leader of the Independent Students Union of University of Colombo during 1985–1986. Pro-Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna activists (some of them were members of Inter University Students' Federation) are accused of his murder. Daya Nayak is an Indian Police officer of the Mumbai Police. He joined the department in 1995, and rose to fame as an encounter specialist in the late 1990s, as a member of the Detection Unit. Early life Daya Nayak was born in a Brahmin family at Yennehole village of the Karkala taluk, Udupi district in a Konkani-speaking family.
