''Day Watch'' (russian: «Дневной Дозор») is a tactical role-playing game developed by Russian developer Nival Interactive, and based on the Russian novel and the film of the same name. It features a group of Light Others trying to combat the schemes of Day Watch. It is a sequel of the Night Watch game released in Russia in 2007. The game is powered by the Silent Storm engine Nival Interactive developed a proprietary game engine for its turn-based tactics video game ''Silent Storm''. Nival is a Russian video game developer and publisher founded by Sergey Orlovskiy in 1996. It is headquartered in Limassol, Cyprus, with development offices in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia. History The company was founded by Sergey Orlovskiy on November 18, 1996 as Nival Interactive, and became famous as the developer of several successful role-playing and strategy series, including ''Rage of Mages'' (known as ''Allods'' in Russia), ''Blitzkrieg'', and ''Etherlords'', all of which would receive sequels. Nival also created the Silent Storm engine and developed several games using it, beginning with the eponymous ''Silent Storm'' series in 2003. ''Night Watch'' (russian: «Ночной Дозор») is the first fantasy novel by the Russian author Sergei Lukyanenko to feature his fictional world of the Others. Lukyanenko wrote the story in 1998 and the book was first published in Russia by AST in 1998. The story revolves around a confrontation between two opposing supernatural groups (known as "Others"): the Night Watch, an organization dedicated to policing the actions of the Dark Others—and the Day Watch, which polices the actions of the Light Others. CDV Software Entertainment AG (formerly CDV Software GmbH, stylized as cdv) was a German publisher of video games founded 1989 in Karlsruhe. On April 17, 2000, cdv became a Frankfurt stock market traded company. In the beginning of the 2000s, CDV was the biggest German publisher in the German video game market. As of the 2006 annual financial statements, the company also reported balance sheet over-indebtedness of EUR 1.9 million, which is, however, covered by a subordinated loan taken out in 2005 (see also mezzanine capital) in the amount of EUR 3.8 million. The company's financial position is based on a balance sheet of EUR 1.9 million. They opened a UK office in 2008. In 2010, VG247 reported that they filed for preliminary insolvency when SouthPeak Games failed to pay a settlement. Marketed as "the first film of the year", it opened in theatres across Russia on 1 January 2006, the United States on 1 June 2007, and the United Kingdom on 5 October 2007. ''Day Watch'' (russian: «Дневной Дозор») is a fantasy novel by Russian authors Sergey Lukyanenko and Vladimir Vasilyev. The second book in the saga of Watches, it is preceded by ''Night Watch'' and followed by ''Twilight Watch'', '' Last Watch'', '' New Watch'', and '' Sixth Watch''. ''Day Watch'' also stands out of the saga as the only novel in the series not narrated mainly from Anton Gorodetsky's point of view.
