County Tipperary
County Tipperary () is a Counties of Ireland, county in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is in the Provinces of Ireland, province of Munster and the Southern Region, Ireland, Southern Region. The county is named after the town of Tipperary (town), Tipperary, and was established in the early 13th century, shortly after the Norman invasion of Ireland. Lionel Sackville, 1st Duke Of Dorset
Lionel Cranfield Sackville, 1st Duke of Dorset (18 January 168810 October 1765) was a British politician who served as Lord President of the Council from 1745 to 1751. He also twice served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1730 to 1737 and again from 1750 to 1755. Life He was the son of the 6th Earl of Dorset and 1st Earl of Middlesex, and the former Lady Mary Compton, younger daughter of the 3rd Earl of Northampton. Styled Lord Buckhurst from birth, he succeeded his father as 7th Earl of Dorset and 2nd Earl of Middlesex in 1706, and was created Duke of Dorset in 1720. Perhaps because he had been on a previous diplomatic mission to Hanover, he was chosen to inform George I of his accession to the Crown in August 1714. Smedmore House
Smedmore House is a country house near Kimmeridge, Dorset, in England. It was originally built by Sir William Clavell around 1620, partially rebuilt by Edward Clavell around 1700, and greatly augmented by George Clavell around 1760. It is a Grade II* listed building. John Damer (1720–1783)
John Damer (27 October 1720 – 1783) was an English country landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1762 to 1780. Damer was the second son of Joseph Damer (1676–1737), Joseph Damer MP of Winterborne Came, and his wife Mary Churchill, daughter of John Churchill of Henbury, Dorset, and was born on 27 October 1720. Damer entered Trinity College, Dublin in March 1737. He married Martha Rush, daughter of Samuel Rush of Benhall, Suffolk on 15 April 1745. By 1751 his brother Joseph Damer, 1st Earl of Dorchester, Joseph Damer, Lord Milton had acquired property at Milton Abbey and John Damar was left in possession of Winterborne Came. In 1754 he commissioned Francis Cartwright of Blandford to design and build Came House at Winterborne. Ezekiel Nesbitt
Ezekiel Nesbitt (1712–1798) was an Irish medical doctor who twice held the presidency of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI). Background and education Nesbitt was born in County Donegal and educated privately in the town of Raphoe. His father, George Nesbitt, was a clergyman from Mountcharles in Donegal. Ezekiel studied at Trinity College Dublin from 1728/1729 to 1732, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He went on to obtain a medical degree at Leiden in the Netherlands, graduating in 1734. He returned to Trinity College Dublin, where he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1740. He was admitted as a candidate for examination at the RCPI in 1741 and received his Fellowship in 1746. He was twice elected President of RCPI, in 1753–1754 and 1763–1764, and in 1765 was made an Honorary Fellow of the college. Sir Edward Crofton, 4th Baronet (12 April 1713 – 26 March 1745) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Family Crofton was the son of Sir Edward Crofton, 3rd Baronet and Mary Nixon. He represented County Roscommon in the Irish House of Commons between 1735 and his death in 1745. He succeeded to his father's baronetcy on 11 November 1739. Theodore Janssen
Sir Theodore Janssen of Wimbledon, 1st Baronet (1650s, Angoulême, France – 22 September 1748, Wimbledon, London) was a French-born English financier and member of parliament who, after a long and successful career in commerce, was ruined and disgraced by his part in the South Sea Bubble. Life Janssen was born in Angoulême, France, son of the paper maker Abraham Janssen and Henriette Manigault. His grandfather, Theodore Janssen de Heez, had taken refuge in France from the Duke of Alba's persecution in the Netherlands. Janssen moved to England in 1680, making his home at Wimbledon, where he bought Wimbledon manor. He was naturalised as an English subject in 1685, and later knighted by King William III on 26 February 1698. In 1694 he was a founder-member of the Bank of England, investing £10,000 and becoming a director. Hon. Lionel Damer (16 September 1748 – 28 May 1807) was a British Whig politician. Family Lionel Damer was the third son of Joseph Damer, 1st Earl of Dorchester by Lady Caroline Sackville (daughter of Lionel Cranfield Sackville, 1st Duke of Dorset and Elizabeth Colyear, his wife, daughter of Lieutenant-General Walter Philip Colyear (brother to David Colyear, 1st Earl of Portmore). Lionel's brothers were the Hon. John Damer and the Rt. Hon. George Damer, 2nd Earl of Dorchester. Lionel Damer was educated at Eton (1755–65) and Trinity College, Cambridge (1766). He married Williamsa or Williamsea Janssen (daughter of William Janssen Esq, fourth son of Sir Theodore Janssen, 1st Baronet of Owre Moyne). Field Marshal Henry Seymour Conway (1721 – 9 July 1795) was a British general and statesman. A brother of the 1st Marquess of Hertford, and cousin of Horace Walpole, he began his military career in the War of the Austrian Succession. He held various political offices including Chief Secretary for Ireland, Secretary of State for the Southern Department, Leader of the House of Commons and Secretary of State for the Northern Department. He eventually rose to the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Forces. Anne Seymour Damer
Anne Seymour Damer (née Conway; 26 October 1748 – 28 May 1828) was an English sculptor. Described as a 'female genius' by Horace Walpole, she was trained in sculpture by Giuseppe Ceracchi and John Bacon. Influenced by the Enlightenment, Damer was an author, traveller, theatrical producer and actress, as well as an acclaimed sculptor. She exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from 1784 to 1818 and was a close friend to members of Georgian high society, including Horace Walpole and the politician Charles James Fox. It is believed that Damer was a lesbian and was in a relationship with the actress Elizabeth Farren. Life Anne Seymour Conway was born in Sevenoaks into an aristocratic Whig family.
