Dawoud Al-Marhoon
Dawoud al-Marhoon is a Saudi Arabian protester who participated in the Saudi Arabian protests during the Arab Spring as a teenager. He was arrested on May 22, 2012 and was sentenced to death in September 2014, after which he was held in prison while awaiting ratification of his sentence by King Abdullah and then King Salman. Early life Dawoud was born in Al-Awamiyah and attended Altarfih al-Sahil High School. He has a mother and a younger sister, but his father died when he was young. As a teenager, Dawood was sociable and popular. He loved playing football and computer games. He excelled in his studies and dreamed of pursuing his love for technology and computers by studying a degree in engineering. Al-Awamiyah
Al-Awamiyah, also spelled Awamia, ( ar, العوامية ') is a town situated in the Al-Qatif region in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. , it has a population of about 25,500 people. Al-Awamiyah is bordered by the Al-Ramis farms to the east and some other farms to the west and the south. To the north side, there is a dividing line between Al-Awamiyah and the neighboring Safwa city, so the town cannot expand any more and provide housing land for its growing population. Due to this limited land, the people move out of the town and settle in nearby neighborhoods, notably Al-Nasera which is home to almost 2500 people living in 250 homes. Reprieve is a nonprofit organization of international lawyers and investigators whose stated goal is to "fight for the victims of extreme human rights abuses with legal action and public education". Their main focus is on the death penalty, indefinite detention without trial (such as in Guantanamo), extraordinary rendition and extrajudicial killing. Ali Mohammed Baqir al-Nimr ( ar, علي محمد باقر النمر; born 20 December 1994) is a Saudi Arabian political prisoner who participated in the Saudi Arabian protests during the Arab Spring as a teenager. He was arrested in February 2012 and sentenced to death in May 2014, having previously awaited ratification of his sentence by King Salman of Saudi Arabia, which was to be carried out by beheading and crucifixion respectively. Ali's trial was considered unfair by Professor of Human Rights Law Christof Heyns, and Amnesty International, as well as French President François Hollande and Prime Minister Manuel Valls, who called for the execution to be stopped.
