''Dawn!'' is a 1979 Australian sports biopic about the three-time Olympic gold medallist swimmer Dawn Fraser, who served as technical adviser for the production, it starring Bronwyn Mackay Payne and Bunney Brooke, written by Joy Cavill and directed by Ken Hannam. The film was entered into the 11th Moscow International Film Festival. Plot The film deals with Dawn Fraser's rise to fame as a champion Olympic swimmer, her anti-authoritarian clashes with Australian Swimming officials, her triumphs, marriage and eventual divorce. Ken Hannam
Ken Hannam (12 July 1929 – 16 November 2004) was an Australian film and television director who also worked in British television drama. Career Born in St Kilda, Melbourne, the eldest of three boys, Hannam lived in his youth in Sydney and was educated at Wollaroi College in Orange, New South Wales. He worked in Australian radio, theatre and television. He started in radio when 15 years of age. He was an announcer at 2SM. He appeared in theatre as an actor, and appeared in the first Philip Street Revue. In 1957 he took over the TV show ''Captain Fortune''. In 1968 he moved to England. Joy Cavill
Joy Cavill (1923–1 March 1990) was an Australian screenwriter and producer. Biography She worked in radio for a number of years before breaking into films as continuity person on ''King of the Coral Sea'' (1954). This film started an association with Lee Robinson which went on for many years, and involved her working with him as a secretary, writer, associate producer and producer on a number of projects, notably '' Skippy the Bush Kangaroo'', on which she was sole producer on the third season. She was also close to Chips Rafferty, who nicknamed her "Mother". In 1964 she travelled to the Tokyo Olympics to film a special on Dawn Fraser. While there she suffered a heart attack. Ron Haddrick
Ronald Norman Haddrick (9 April 1929 – 11 February 2020) was an Australian actor, cricketer, narrator and presenter. In 2012, he received the Actors Equity Lifetime Achievement Award for his long and distinguished career in media, spanning some seventy years both locally and also in Britain. He appeared in many Shakespeare roles and often performed with theatre actress Ruth Cracknell. At the time Australian playwright David Williamson said, "Ron Haddrick was chosen for two reasons. Jill Robb
Jill Robb (1934 – 16 January 2022) was an English-born Australian film producer and executive who worked mostly in Australia. Biography Robb began in the film industry as a stand in for Jill Adams on ''Dust in the Sun'' (1958). Robb was a founding board member of the Australian Film Commission, inaugural CEO of the Victorian Film Corporation (now Film Victoria) and a member of the Film Victoria Board from 1983 to 1989. Robb served for many years on the Board of the Playbox Theatre Company during the difficult years following the 1984 fire. She left at the end of 1989. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2011 Australia Day Honours for "service to the Australian film and television industries as a producer, through executive roles with industry organisations, and as a mentor to emerging filmmakers".
