Nicholas Flood Davin
Nicholas Flood Davin, KC (January 13, 1840 – October 18, 1901) was a lawyer, journalist and politician, born at Kilfinane, Ireland. The first MP for Assiniboia West (1887–1900), Davin was known as the voice of the North-West. Davin founded and edited the '' Regina Leader'', the first newspaper in Assiniboia. He tried to gain provincial status for the territory. Davin is considered one of the architects of the Canadian Indian residential school system. In 1879 he wrote the ''Report on Industrial Schools for Indians and Half-Breeds'', otherwise known as '' The Davin Report'', in which he advised the federal government to institute residential schools for Indigenous children. In 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission concluded that the assimilation amounted to cultural genocide. Delia Davin
Delia Davin (9 June 1944 – 13 October 2016) was a writer and lecturer on Chinese society and particularly Chinese women's stories. She was one of the first foreign scholars to consider the impact of the policies of the Chinese Communist Party on women. From 1988 until her retirement in 2004, Davin taught Chinese history at Leeds University, where she became a chaired professor. She was also head of the Department of East Asian Studies and deputy head of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. Before going to Leeds, she had taught in the Department of Economics and Related Studies at the University of York, where she was a founding member of York’s Centre for Women's Studies. Daniel Marcus Davin (1 September 1913 – 28 September 1990), generally known as Dan Davin, was an author who wrote about New Zealand, although for most of his career he lived in Oxford, England, working for Oxford University Press. The themes of his earliest fiction, in short stories that include ''Saturday Night, Late Snow'', ''The Apostate, The Basket, The Vigil'', and ''The Milk Round'', were about "Mick Connolly" and his Irish Catholic family in largely Protestant Southland. Maurice Davin
Maurice Davin (29 June 1842 – 27 January 1927) was an Irish farmer who became co-founder of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He was also the first President of the GAA and the only man ever to serve two terms as president. Sports Davin was born in Carrick-on-Suir, the son of John Davin and Bridget Davin and the eldest of 4 athlete brothers He became an extremely talented athlete and achieved international fame in the 1870s when he held numerous world records for running, hurdling, jumping and weight-throwing. Martin Davin
Martin Davin (5 May 1905 – 9 November 1957) was a Scottish footballer who played in the Scottish Football League for Dumbarton and Airdrieonians, and in the English Football League for Bury, Bolton Wanderers, Hull City and Clapton Orient. Career Davin played at Scottish junior league level for Old Kilpatrick of the Scottish Junior League Western Section and then Vale of Clyde of the Glasgow Junior League before, in the summer of 1926 signing with senior level club Dumbarton of the Scottish League Second Division. A year later in August 1927 Davin was transferred to English League First Division club Bury for a £300 fee plus £200 performance related fee. Dumbarton had previously agreed with the Vale of Clyde club to pay them £50 of the transfer fee but this was blocked by the Scottish Football Association which gave rise to legal proceedings, subsequently settled by an agreement. Davin Joseph (born November 22, 1983) is an American former professional football player who was a guard in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners, and was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft with the 23rd overall pick. Franco Davín (; born January 11, 1970) is a tennis coach and a former tennis player from Argentina. Davín won his first ATP-tour match at 15 years, 1 month against Hans Gildemeister in Buenos Aires. He holds the Open Era record for being the youngest player to win a tour level main draw match. Davín won three singles tournaments on the ATP Tour, and reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 30 in October 1990. He coached fellow countryman Juan Martín del Potro until July 2015, and was the captain of the Argentine Davis Cup team. Under Davín's tutelage, Del Potro won the 2009 US Open, defeating Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals and Roger Federer in the final en route to the championship. William Davin
William Davin (19 February 1890 – 1 March 1956) was an Irish Labour Party politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for over thirty years. He was also a station-master. His first candidacy for public office was at the 1922 general election, when he stood as a Labour Party candidate in the Leix–Offaly constituency. He was returned to the 3rd Dáil, and was re-elected at each successive general election until his death in office in 1956. Following his death, a by-election was held on 30 April 1956 which was won by the Fianna Fáil candidate Kieran Egan. He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government from 1954 to 1956. For most of this period, he was the only Labour deputy from Laois–Offaly, but after the June 1927 general election he was joined in the short-lived 5th Dáil by John Gill, who lost his seat at the September 1927 general election. Patrick Davin (16 February 1962 – 9 September 2020) was a Belgian orchestra conductor. Biography Davin began studying violin at the Académie de Huy, then at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, where he took courses in violin, piano, harmonics, and fugue. He continued his education at the Conservatoire de Toulon. Davin was a pupil of René Defossez, Pierre Boulez, and Peter Eötvös. He helped many contemporary composers create their works, such as Philippe Boesmans, Henri Pousseur, Bruno Mantovani, Jean-Louis Agobet, Marco Stroppa, and Vinko Globokar. He served as musical and artistic director of the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse from 2013 to 2020. In July 2020, he became director of the music department of the Royal Conservatory of Liège.
