David Young (TV Producer)
David Young is a British television producer. In 2001, as the Head of Light Entertainment for the BBC, he created the television programme ''The Weakest Link''. Biography Young began his career as a runner for Hat Trick Productions in the early 1990s after graduating from Bristol University with a BA Honours degree in Drama. He later secured a development deal with Hat Trick where he went on to create and produce '' Whatever You Want'' for BBC One. Following a brief spell creating and producing his own formats at Endemol UK, he became the youngest ever Head of Light Entertainment at BBC Television in 1999. At the BBC, Young and his team created a string of hits including: ''Friends Like These'', '' Dog Eat Dog'', ''Jet Set'' and ''The Weakest Link''. In 2001 Young quit the BBC to set up 12 Yard with his former employers Hat Trick. Six years later, Young sold the business to ITV plc for £35 million in December 2007. A television producer is a person who oversees one or more aspects of video production on a television program. Some producers take more of an executive role, in that they conceive new programs and pitch them to the television networks, but upon acceptance they focus on business matters, such as budgets and contracts. ''Coach Trip'' is a British reality game show originally broadcast on Channel 4 from 7 March 2005 to 30 June 2006. The programme returned after a three-year break, from 25 May 2009 to 9 March 2012. ''The Benefactor'' is an American reality television show broadcast on ABC starting on September 13, 2004. The premise involved 16 contestants vying to win US$1 million from billionaire entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. In late March and early April 2004, ABC held open auditions for the show in Atlanta, Boise, Boston, Dallas and Las Vegas and also accepted auditions by mail. The show and its format were kept tightly under wraps during its filming, which began on April 30, 2004 in Dallas, Texas. ''The Colour of Money'' is a British game show, broadcast on ITV between 21 February and 11 April 2009. The programme was produced by 12 Yard, and hosted by Chris Tarrant and Millie Clode.
