David W. King
David W. King (born June 28, 1946) is an American politician from New Mexico. Beginning his career as a member of the Democratic Party, he changed affiliation to the Republican Party in 1995. He is the nephew of Bruce King, a three-time Governor of New Mexico. Career In 1980, incumbent Democratic Congressman Harold L. Runnels of New Mexico's 2nd district died of cancer, three months before the general election. The state Democratic committee chose King to replace him on the ballot over Dorothy Runnels, the late Congressman's widow. King, however, had only moved his voter registration into the district ten days after Runnels' death. In protest, Dorothy Runnels waged a write-in campaign, as did Republican Joe Skeen, who was denied ballot access after taking his case to the state Supreme Court. The ''Albuquerque Journal'' is the largest newspaper in the U.S. state of New Mexico. History The ''Golden Gate'' newspaper was founded in June 1880. In the fall of 1880, the owner of the ''Golden Gate'' died and Journal Publishing Company was created. Journal Publishing changed the paper's name to ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' and issued its first edition of the ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' on October 14, 1880. The Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) was a U.S. government agency established in August 1946 to replace the Farm Security Administration. It superseded the Resettlement Administration during the Great Depression and operated until 2006. FmHA mission and programs involved extending credit for agriculture and rural development. Direct and guaranteed credit went to individual farmers, low-income families, and seniors in rural areas. Loans were authorized for housing, farm improvement, water systems, and emergency relief. FmHA also gave loans and grants for rural development. Toney Anaya (born April 29, 1941) is an American politician and attorney who served as the 26th governor of New Mexico from 1983 to 1987. Early life and career Anaya was born on in Moriarty, New Mexico. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from American University's Washington College of Law in 1967. Anaya met his wife, Elaine Anaya, in Washington D.C. during the 1960s while he was an aide to Senator Joseph Montoya and she was working for the United States Department of Labor. The couple dated for two years before marrying in 1969. They returned to New Mexico and settled in a home near the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
