David Valentine (scientist)
David Layton Valentine (born 1973) is a Geochemistry, geochemist, microbiologist, science communicator. Valentine is Distinguished Professor of Geochemistry and Microbiology in the Department of Earth Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where he holds the Norris Presidential Chair. At UCSB, he directs the Valentine Lab. Early life and education Valentine was born in San Diego, California in 1973 and grew up in Davis, California, Davis, California, the son of two scientists. Valentine's father, Raymond C. Valentine (1936–2023), was a controversial Professor, at University of California, Davis, UC Davis and scientific founder of Calgene Inc., an early plant biotechnology company known for the development of RoundUp resistant crop plants and the Flavr Savr, Flavr Savr tomato among others products.
