David Townsend (botanist)
David Townsend (December 13, 1787 – December 6, 1858) was an American banker, botanist, and civic leader from Chester County, Pennsylvania. He was a lifelong friend and business associate of noted botanist William Darlington and was a founder and chief cashier of the National Bank of Chester County. The plant genus '' Townsendia'' was named in his honor. Biography Townsend was born in the village of Pughtown, Chester County, Pennsylvania, to Quaker farmers Samuel and Priscilla Yarnell Townsend. He studied elementary math and English at a local country school and became a clerk in the office of the Register and Recorder of Chester County in 1810. He moved to West Chester that year and lived in the borough until his death. He was elected as a commissioner of Chester County in 1813 and became county treasurer in 1816. David Wood Townsend
David Wood Townsend (July 18, 1844 – March 8, 1912) was an American builder. Townsend was a business owner and builder in Western Iowa. Starting out representing Knapp, Stout & Co. Lumber, he later owned and operated several Townsend Bros. Lumber Yards both in Iowa and Nebraska. In 1882, he oversaw the building of the Plymouth County Bank building. In 1884, Townsend and J. M. Starbuck contracted to build the Ida County Courthouse. In 1884, Townsend was contracted to build the school house at Cherokee, Iowa. In 1886, Townsend contracted and oversaw the building of the Marshall County Courthouse (Iowa) and the court house at Council Bluffs and built a hotel at Sioux City. That same year he also added another story to the Sioux City Journal building in Sioux City. In 1898, he contracted with Cutting & Willett and K of P Lodge at Oto, Woodbury county, Iowa to build a two story brick building with the lodge taking the top floor. David Charles Humphrey Townsend (20 April 1912 – 27 January 1997) was an English cricketer who played in three Test matches in 1935. Born in Norton, County Durham, David Townsend was educated at Winchester College and New College, Oxford. He was a right-handed batsman, sometimes used as an opener, who holds the record of being the last cricketer to have played Test cricket for England without playing for one of the first-class English counties. Townsend's first-class cricket was principally for Oxford University and he won his Blue in the University match in 1933 and 1934. But his other cricket was mainly for Durham, which was at that time one of the Minor Counties. David Edward John Townsend (born 26 October 1965) is a former English cricketer. Townsend was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He was born at Tiverton, Devon. Townsend made his debut for Devon in the 1993 Minor Counties Championship against Wiltshire. From 1993 to 2002, he represented the county in 10 Championship matches, the last of which came against Oxfordshire. His MCCA Knockout Trophy debut for the county came against Dorset in 1993. Dave Townsend is a British songwriter, lyricist, and singer, and was born in Somerset, in South West England. Aside from a solo career, he was also a vocalist for The Alan Parsons Project, singing lead vocals on "Don't Let it Show" on the album, '' I Robot'' (1977), and "You Won't Be There" from '' Eve'' (1979). Townsend wrote the song " Miss You Nights" in 1974 while his girlfriend was away on holiday, and recorded it on an album for Island Records, but the label shelved the album and offered the songs to other artists as covers. Cliff Richard recorded it in September 1975, and Townsend (as the composer) was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in 1977 for "Best Middle of the Road Song," although the winner was John Miles for " Music."
