David Rowlands (Welsh Politician)
David John Rowlands (born April 1948) is a former Welsh politician who was a Member of the Senedd (MS) for South Wales East from 2016 to 2021. Elected as an MS for the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Rowlands joined the Brexit Party in 2019. He later joined the Independent Alliance for Reform group in the Senedd in October 2020. Biography Born in the Welsh mining town of Argoed, he was educated at Pontllanfraith Grammar School obtaining A Levels in economics and geography before studying for a degree in business studies. Rowlands joined UKIP in 1998. Political Career In the 2001 general election, Rowlands stood as the UKIP candidate for Montgomeryshire. He contested New Inn ward in Torfaen in the 2004 Welsh local election, where he won 811 votes. In the 2015 UK General election, Rowlands stood as the UKIP candidate for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney. A member of the Senedd (MS; plural: ''MSs''; ; , plural: ) is a representative elected to the Senedd (Welsh Parliament; ). There are sixty members, with forty members chosen to represent individual Senedd constituency, Senedd constituencies, and twenty to represent the five Senedd electoral regions, electoral regions of the Senedd in Wales. Each person in Wales is represented by five MSs: one for their local constituency (encompassing their local area where they reside), and another four covering their electoral region (a large grouping of constituencies). New Inn
New Inn () is a village and community directly south east of Pontypool, within the County Borough of Torfaen in Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It had a population of 5,986 at the 2011 Census. Location The village is bounded to the north by the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal; on the east by the Torfaen and Monmouthshire administrative border; the western boundary follows the Afon Lwyd river between Pontypool Park Gates and Chapel Lane in Pontrhydyrun. Newport East () is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of eight constituencies in the South Wales East electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to eight constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. Boundaries The constituency was created for the first election to the Assembly, in 1999, with the same boundaries as the Newport East (UK Parliament constituency). Caroline Yvonne Jones (born 1 April 1955) is a Welsh politician who was a Member of the Senedd (MS) for South Wales West from 2016 to 2021. She is a member of Reform UK. She was first elected for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) as a member in the Welsh Assembly (now Senedd) from 2016 to 2018, during which, in 2018, she shortly served as the assembly group's leader. In 2018, Jones left the party to sit as an independent. In May 2019, Jones joined the newly formed Brexit Party (now Reform UK) group in the assembly. She later left the group, becoming independent again, due to disagreements with their anti-devolution stance.
