David Pinto-Duschinsky
David Johnathan Pinto-Duschinsky (born June 1974) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Hendon since 2024. His majority is currently the smallest of any MP elected in the 2024 general election at only 15 votes. Background Pinto-Duschinsky is the son of Holocaust survivor and scholar Michael Pinto-Duschinsky. He was educated at Magdalen College School and then Pembroke College, Oxford. He was President of the Oxford Union in 1995. He worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company and then as a partner at Ernst & Young. In politics, Pinto-Duschinsky served as an adviser to the former Labour Chancellor Alistair Darling and Deputy Director of the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit prior to his election as an MP. The Prime Minister's Strategy Unit (often referred to simply as The Strategy Unit) was a unit based in the UK Cabinet Office between 2002 and 2010 (with its predecessor unit, the Performance and Innovation Unit, dating back to 1999). Runcorn and Helsby is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election. The incumbent MP is Sarah Pochin, who defeated Labour Party candidate Karen Shore by six votes at a by-election on 1 May 2025, overturning a 34.8% majority. It was reported that she is the first non-Labour MP elected in Runcorn in over fifty years though this is not correct as the Runcorn and Helsby constituency was only created in 2024 - before this, the constituency was called Weaver Vale which had a Conservative MP, Graham Evans, from 2010 to 2017. Reform UK is a right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. Nigel Farage has been Leader of Reform UK and Richard Tice deputy leader since 2024. 2025 Runcorn And Helsby By-election
A by-election for the United Kingdom parliamentary constituency of Runcorn and Helsby was held on 1 May 2025, the same day as local elections in England. Following a recount, Sarah Pochin of Reform UK won the by-election with a majority of six votes, overturning a Labour majority of 14,696 votes in the last general election. It was the closest British post-war by-election result, and the closest result in a constituency since North East Fife in the 2017 general election. The by-election was called following the resignation of the constituency's MP, Mike Amesbury. Amesbury was sentenced on 24 February 2025 to ten weeks in prison for assault, which was reduced on appeal to a suspended sentence.
