David Maitland Maitland-Titterton (1904 – 1988) was a Scottish British Army officer and officer of arms. Maitland-Titterton was a commissioned officer in the Ayrshire Yeomanry and retired with the honorary rank of major in 1964. Ayrshire Yeomanry
The Ayrshire (Earl of Carrick's Own) Yeomanry was a Regiment of the British Yeomanry and is now an armoured Squadron of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry (SNIY), part of the British Army Reserve. It is the Lowlands of Scotland's only Royal Armoured Corps Unit and has an unbroken history stretching back to the 1790s. The squadron is part of 51st (Scottish) Brigade within the Army's Support Command. The Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry is the only yeomanry regiment that serves in the reconnaissance role, equipped with the Wolf Land Rover with Weapons Mount Installation Kit (WMIK) and with HMG (heavy machine gun 12.7mm L1A1) and GMPG (General purpose machine gun 7.62mm L7A2). The Court of the Lord Lyon (the Lyon Court) is a standing court of law, based in New Register House in Edinburgh, which regulates heraldry in Scotland. The Lyon Court maintains the register of grants of arms, known as the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland, as well as records of genealogies. The Lyon Court is a public body, and the fees for grants of arms are paid to HM Treasury. It is headed by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, who must be legally qualified, as he has criminal jurisdiction in heraldic matters, and the court is fully integrated into the Scottish legal system, including having a dedicated prosecutor, known in Scotland as a procurator fiscal. Falkland Pursuivant of Arms is a Scottish pursuivant of arms of the Court of the Lord Lyon. The title was first mentioned in 1493 and it is derived from the Royal Palace of the same name located in Fife. Ormond Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary (also spelt Ormonde) is a current Scottish pursuivant of arms in Ordinary of the Court of the Lord Lyon. The office was probably instituted around the same time as the creation of James Stewart, second son of James III of Scotland, as Marquess of Ormonde in 1476. James Monteith Grant
Sir James Monteith Grant FRHSC (Hon) (19 October 1903 – 1 December 1981) was Lord Lyon King of Arms of Scotland from 1969 to 1981. Educated at the Edinburgh Academy and the University of Edinburgh, where he studied law, he was appointed a Writer to the Signet (WS) in 1927. His first heraldic appointment was as Carrick Pursuivant in 1946. He was promoted to Marchmont Herald in 1957 and then to Lord Lyon in 1969. He was also Secretary to the Order of the Thistle from 1971 until 1981. From his retirement as Lord Lyon in 1981, he again held the post of Marchmont Herald until his death later that year. He was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (FSA Scot), a Knight of the Venerable Order of St John (KStJ) from 1970, and a Commander 2nd Class of the Order of the Polar Star (KNO2kl) of Sweden from 1975. Charles John Shaw-Mackenzie of Tordarroch, 7th of Newhall (3 March 1899 – 2 August 1978) was a British Army officer, Scottish officer of arms and clan chief. Shaw was the son of John Alexander Shaw-Mackenzie of Tordarroch, 6th of Newhall and Frances Yule. He was educated at Charterhouse School, before joining the British Army. He was commissioned into the Seaforth Highlanders in 1918 having attended the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. In 1924 he was appointed a Military Member of the Order of the British Empire. He was promoted to Captain in 1928. In 1934 he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Ross and Cromarty. He fought in the Second World War, during which he was taken prisoner in the Battle of France in 1940; he was repatriated in September 1944. Shaw was Mentioned in Dispatches in 1945.
