David La Touche Colthurst
David la Touche Colthurst (1828 – 19 January 1907) was an Irish Home Rule League politician. He was elected Home Rule Member of Parliament (MP) for County Cork at the 1879 by-election, and remained MP until the seat was abolished in 1885. He was the son of Sir Nicholas Colthurst, 4th Baronet Sir Nicholas Colthurst, 4th Baronet (1789–1829) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Cork County was a parliamentary constituency in Ireland, represented in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. From 1801 to 1885 it returned two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. At the 1885 general election, County Cork was divided into seven parliamentary divisions: East Cork, Mid Cork, North Cork, North East Cork, South Cork, South East Cork and West Cork. Since 1922, the area no longer elects UK members of parliament, as it is no longer in the United Kingdom. William Shaw (Irish Politician)
William Shaw (4 May 1823 – 19 September 1895) was an Irish Protestant nationalist politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and one of the founders of the Irish home rule movement. Born in Moy, County Tyrone, Shaw was connected with the Young Ireland movement, and studied at Trinity College Dublin without taking a degree. He then studied theology at Highbury College in Middlesex. McCarthy Downing
Timothy McCarthy Downing (11 May 1814 – 9 January 1879) was an Irish Liberal Party and Home Rule League politician. He was Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for County Cork from 1868 to 1874, and then a Home Rule League MP for the same constituency until his death in 1879. Downing was a solicitor, and his family house was Prospect House, Skibbereen, which later became the Bishop Residence. He is buried in Old Caheragh Graveyard, Skibbereen. The Home Rule League (1873–1882), sometimes called the Home Rule Party, was an Irish political party which campaigned for home rule for Ireland within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, until it was replaced by the Irish Parliamentary Party. The Home Rule Confederation of Great Britain was a sister organisation in Great Britain.
