David Kirch
Sir David Roderick Kirch, KBE (born 1936) is a British businessman, collector, and philanthropist. Background Kirch has lived in Jersey since 1973. Collecting Over his lifetime Kirch built up and subsequently sold what was probably the world's largest collection of Zeppelin memorabilia, and a collection of provincial bank notes said to be "the most extensive selection of iconic and historical notes of this series ever assembled" by Barnaby Faull, Head of Spink's Banknotes department. In recent years, he has been selling off items from his various collections and donating the funds to his charitable trust. Philanthropy In 2006, Kirch celebrated his 70th birthday by announcing his plans to give everyone in Jersey, aged 70 or over, £100 in vouchers to spend in the island's Co-op supermarkets. The Jersey people (Jèrriais: ''Jèrriais''; french: Jersiais, links=no) also referred to as Islanders, are an ethnic group and nation native to the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands who share a common history, Norman ancestry and culture. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. The Channel Islands' Co-operative Society is a long-established consumer co-operative with stores in the Channel Islands. Its head office is located in Saint Helier in Jersey. In the year ending 13 January 2019, Channel Islands Co-op recorded sales of £183.6m (£174.5m 2017/18) and a profit after tax of £940k (£745k 2017/18). The Society was able to pay its members a 4% dividend (4% 2017/18) as a share of profits, with the total reported member benefits amounting to £7.97m, inclusive of Dividend, Dividend stamps, travel vouchers and share interest. Bank Of England Note Issues
The Bank of England, which is now the central bank of the United Kingdom, British Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories, has issued banknotes since 1694. In 1921 the Bank of England gained a legal monopoly on the issue of banknotes in England and Wales, a process that started with the Bank Charter Act of 1844 when the ability of other banks to issue notes was restricted. Banknotes were originally hand-written; although they were partially printed from 1725 onwards, cashiers still had to sign each note and make them payable to someone.
