David James Boyd
David James Boyd (born May 27, 1975) is an African American writer, composer and lyricist perhaps best known for composing the original music and lyrics for the off-Broadway play '' My Big Gay Italian Wedding''. Boyd's Broadway career started as an actor in multiple Broadway shows including '' Miss Saigon'' and ''Kiss of the Spider Woman''. In 2012, Boyd created and starred in the dance/electronic musical ''The Groove Factory''. Written along with co-librettist Chad Kessler, the musical opened to sold-out audiences at the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival. In addition to theatre work, Boyd has co-produced music for artists Taylor Dayne, Judy Torres, Kim Sozzi, Ari Gold, Jason Dottley, Levi Kreis Levi Kreis (born November 4, 1981) is an American actor and singer from Oliver Springs, Tennessee. My Big Gay Italian Wedding
''My Big Gay Italian Wedding'' is a play written by Anthony J. Wilkinson that premiered off-Broadway in 2003, at the Actor's Playhouse in New York City. In September 2009, an updated version co-starring Scott Evans and with choreography by J. Austin Eyer played a benefit performance at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island. The play then opened with a new cast that included Reichen Lehmkuhl in May 2010 at the St. Luke's Theatre on West 46th Street, in Manhattan, for an open-ended run that concluded in August 2015. The show originated in 2003 as a non-union Off-Broadway show and in 2010 became a full union production, extending fourteen times in the same location. During the run, the show hosted some major celebrities in efforts to help raise money and awareness for marriage equality and the Trevor Project. New York Musical Theatre Festival
The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) was an annual three-week summer festival that operated from 2004 to 2019. It presented more than 30 new musicals a year in New York City's midtown theater district. More than half were chosen by leading theater artists and producers through an open-submission, double-blind evaluation process; the remaining shows were invited to participate by the Festival's artist staff.
