David Hoffman (jurist)
David Hoffman (December 24, 1784November 11, 1854) was an American legal scholar. He taught law at the University of Maryland from 1814 to 1843. Hoffman wrote Hoffman's Course of Legal Study, Hoffman's ''Course of Legal Study'', an influential early legal textbook. Hoffman was born in Baltimore on December 24, 1784, the youngest of eight brothers, to Dorothea Stierlin Lloyd and Peter Hoffman. His father, a businessman, had emigrated from Germany to Maryland. He attended St. John's College (Annapolis/Santa Fe), St. John's College, but left in 1802 without receiving a degree. In 1816, he married Mary McKean. Hoffman left his professorship at the University of Maryland in 1836 to study in Europe. He received doctorates in law from the University of Maryland and the University of Oxford, and a Doctor of both laws, doctorate of both laws from the University of Göttingen. David Allen Hoffman
David Allen Hoffman is an American mathematician whose research concerns differential geometry. He is an adjunct professor at Stanford University. In 1985, together with William Meeks, he proved that Costa's surface was embedded. He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society since 2018, for "contributions to differential geometry, particularly minimal surface theory, and for pioneering the use of computer graphics as an aid to research." He was awarded the Chauvenet Prize in 1990 for his expository article "The Computer-Aided Discovery of New Embedded Minimal Surfaces". He obtained his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1971 under the supervision of Robert Osserman. David Francis Hoffman (born 1946) is an American criminal known for the brutal murder and dismemberment of his wife, Carol Stebbins, in 1980. The murder occurred after the relationship between the married couple began to deteriorate and the introduction of Hoffman's mother, Helen Ulvinen, into their home. Hoffman was found guilty of murder by the first degree under the pre-1990 Minnesota law, and given a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 17 years. David George Hoffman (born 3 March 1948) is a Canadian man wrongly convicted of murder, for which he served four years in prison before he was acquitted on an appeal. Satan's Choice Hoffman was born on a farm between New Dundee and Plattsville. Unlike most outlaw bikers, Hoffman was a successful student who graduated with honors from the Waterloo Oxford Secondary School in 1966. In the spring of 1967, he joined the Preston (modern Cambridge) chapter of the Satan's Choice Motorcycle Club. Shortly afterwards, he began to work at the B.F. Goodrich Company factory in Kitchener. Unlike most members of Satan's Choice, Hoffman held a legitimate job and worked for a living. Hoffmann transferred over to the Kitchener chapter of Satan's Choice and served as the treasurer from October 1967 onward. David Lee Hoffman is an American tea importer. He also founded and directs The Last Resort, an ecology research center, and The Phoenix Collection, a personal tea collection. History David Lee Hoffman is a self-promoted 'tea guru' and was as a vocal importer and public promoter of Chinese teas to the West, particularly puer teas. In the early 1970s he began importing puer teas from Nepal, and eventually ventured into remote regions in China to seek out the fine, rare, and wild teas. David Nachum Hoffman (1 February 1954 - 7 March 2011) was an American rabbi. He was best known as the spiritual leader of Temple Israel in Cape Town, South Africa from 1989 - 2006. Early life and career He was born in Los Angeles, California to parents, Samuel Rubin Hoffman (1928–2004) and Rochelle Chalip Hoffman (1926–1998). His father was a scientist and public school teacher who founded Camp Kinneret in Agoura, California in 1954 together with his wife. Rabbi Hoffman graduated from UCLA and later studied at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He completed his rabbinical studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America where he was ordained as a Conservative rabbi. Rabbi Hoffman was the Chairperson of the Interfaith Forum in Cape Town. He participated in this capacity in the Parliament of the World's Religions in 1999.
