David Hawkins (basketball)
David Gregory Hawkins (born October 28, 1982) is an American professional basketball player. He is a 1.95 m (6 ft 4¾ in) tall shooting guard. College career Hawkins played college basketball at Temple University for John Chaney's Owls. He became the team's leader after being reinstated to it from a suspension due to bad grades. He was named to the 2002–03 Atlantic 10 Conference All-Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team and to the 2003–04 Atlantic 10 Conference All-Atlantic 10 Conference First Team, averaging 16.9 and 24.4 points per game respectively. Professional career Hawkins was signed to the Houston Rockets for a brief period of time. He was later released from the team and signed with Sebastiani Rieti, then in the Italian second division. Pallacanestro Virtus Roma
Pallacanestro Virtus Roma, commonly known as Virtus Roma, was an Italian professional basketball club based in Rome, Lazio. It competed in the Italian basketball league system, first division of Italian basketball, the Lega Basket Serie A, LBA, for the last time in the 2020–21 season. It was formerly a major side in Europe, winning the 1983–84 FIBA European Champions Cup (EuroLeague), and at one time being one of only 13 clubs to hold a EuroLeague A license. However, its standing later waned, and Virtus became less competitive in both Europe and the domestic Lega Basket Serie A, LBA - which it had won in 1983 – before being voluntarily promotion and relegation, relegated to the Italian second division in July 2015. Big3 (stylized BIG3) is a 3-on-3 basketball league founded by hip hop musician and actor Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz. The league consists of 12 teams whose rosters include both former NBA players and international players. The rules of Big3 games contain deviations from the official rules of 3-on-3 basketball as administered by FIBA. In January 2020, Big3 announced its rule set would be the core of a new basketball variant called "Fireball3" (stylized ''FIREBALL3''). 3x3 basketball (pronounced ''three-ex-three'') is a variation of basketball played three-a-side, with one backboard and in a half-court setup. Serie A2, known for sponsorship reasons as Serie A2 Old Wild West, is a men's basketball league in Italy. It constitutes the second-tier of the Italian league pyramid, below the first division LBA and above the third division Serie B, with promotion/relegation occurring between these leagues. It is run by the Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro (LNP), itself regulated by the FIP, the Italian federation. Names History The league was created in May 1974, by the Lega Basket, the organisation in charge of running the LBA (to this day), that decided to create a new second division with 10 clubs. The two that were relegated during that season, and 8 from the now-former second tier Serie B, chosen with an on and off the court criteria. AMG Sebastiani Basket, commonly known as AMG Sebastiani or Sebastiani Rieti was an Italian men's basketball club based in the city of Rieti. History Sebastiani Rieti was founded in 1946 by Luigi Padronetti and became active until the 1996–97 season. The club was headed to the memory of Angelo, Mario and Gino Sebastiani, great sportsmen of the time, barbarously killed by the German Army in 1944. The 2004 Atlantic 10 men's basketball tournament was played from March 10 to March 13, 2004, at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio. The winner was named champion of the Atlantic 10 Conference and received an automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. Xavier University won the tournament. The top two teams in each division received first-round byes. Saint Joseph's University entered the tournament undefeated, but lost to Xavier in the quarterfinals. The Temple Owls are the athletic teams that represent Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The current athletic director is Arthur Johnson. The owl has been the symbol and mascot for Temple University since its founding in the 1880s. Temple was the first school in the United States to adopt the owl as its symbol or mascot. The owl, a nocturnal hunter, was initially adopted as a symbol because Temple University began as a night school for young people of limited means. John Chaney (basketball Coach)
John Chaney (January 21, 1932 – January 29, 2021) was an American college basketball coach, best known for his success at Temple University from 1982 through 2006. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Early life and playing career Chaney was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but grew up in Philadelphia. He began his career after graduating from Bethune–Cookman College and spending some time in the Eastern Professional Basketball League, first with the Sunbury Mercuries from 1955 to 1963 and Williamsport Billies from 1963 to 1966.
