David Goffin
David Goffin (; born 7 December 1990) is a Belgian professional tennis player. He reached a career-high singles ATP rankings, ranking of world No. 7, making him the highest ranked male player from Belgium in tennis history. He is also the first and only Belgian man to be ranked in the top 10. He is currently the No. 1 Belgian player. Goffin has won six ATP titles and reached nine other finals, most notably at the 2017 ATP Finals – Singles, 2017 ATP Finals. Goffin's breakthrough came at the 2012 French Open – Men's singles, 2012 French Open, where he was a lucky loser making his Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major debut. He reached the fourth round before losing to Roger Federer in four sets. Grigor Dimitrov defeated David Goffin in the final, 7–5, 4–6, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2017 ATP Finals. Dimitrov became the first debutant to win the title since Àlex Corretja in 1998, and it marked the first time since 2008 that two first-time finalists contested the final. Dominic Thiem (; born 3 September 1993) is an Austrian former professional tennis player. He was ranked world No. 3 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which he first achieved in March 2020. Thiem won 17 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including a major at the 2020 US Open. He finished runner-up at three other majors, the 2018 and 2019 French Opens and the 2020 Australian Open. A lucky loser is a sports competitor (player or team) who loses a match in a knockout tournament or loses in qualifying, but who then enters the main draw. The PIF ATP Rankings (previously known as the Pepperstone ATP Rankings) are the merit-based method used by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for determining the qualification for entry as well as the seeding of players in all singles and doubles tournaments. The first rankings for singles were published on 23 August 1973 while the doubles players were ranked for the first time on 1 March 1976. Ranking points are awarded according to the stage of tournament reached, and the prestige of the tournament, with the four Grand Slam tournaments awarding the most points.
