David Giuliano
David W. Giuliano (born May 16, 1960) was the 39th Moderator of the United Church of Canada from 2006 to 2009. Early life and education Giuliano grew up in Windsor, Ontario, in his words, "a descendant of deeply faithful Southern Ontario Quakers, born-again Baptists, and Italian-American immigrant Catholics." While in attending high school in Windsor, Ontario, he met his future wife Pearl at a church youth group. Giuliano earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master's of Science from the University of Guelph and a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology from Queen's University. He received an Honorary Doctorate from Huntington University, Sudbury. Vocation Following graduation, Giuliano moved to Marathon, Ontario to serve at St. John's United Church. He also worked for the University of Guelph as human rights commissioner, conference co-ordinator, and residence manager. Peter Short (clergyman)
Peter B. Short (born July 22, 1948) is an ordained minister and was the 38th Moderator of the United Church of Canada from 2003 until 2006. He was elected Moderator at the denomination's meeting of the 38th General Council in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Early life and career Short was born in Kingston, Ontario and grew up in Arnprior and Braeside, Ontario. In 1978, he graduated from Emmanuel College, and was ordained by the Maritime Conference of the United Church of Canada. He subsequently served as minister to a number of congregations in eastern and northern Canada. Short was elected as Moderator at the 38th General Council of the United Church in August 2003. Lakehead University is a public research university with campuses in Thunder Bay and Orillia, Ontario, Canada. The Moderator of the United Church of Canada is the most senior elected official within the United Church of Canada. He or she may be a lay person or a member of the Order of Ministry and is elected to a three-year term by commissioners attending the church's triannual General Council. The current Moderator is the Right Reverend Dr. Carmen Lansdowne, who was elected to the office at the 44th General Council in July 2022, and installed on August 7, 2022.
