Sir David Emrys Evans (29 March 1891 – 20 February 1966) was a Wales, Welsh classicist and university principal. Life Evans, from Clydach, Swansea, Clydach, Glamorgan, was educated at Ystalyfera County School, before going on to University College, Bangor, and then Jesus College, Oxford, where he obtained a Degrees of the University of Oxford#Bachelors' degrees, B. Litt. degree. He taught at the secondary school in Pentre from 1918, before becoming assistant lecturer in classics at Bangor. In 1921, he was appointed as the first professor of classics at Swansea University, and later succeeded Henry Reichel, Sir Henry Reichel as Principal of Bangor. He also served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales and as deputy chairman of the Boundary Commissions (United Kingdom), Boundary Commission for Wales. Biography Born in Edmonton in London, Evans came from a working-class background and attended Tottenham Technical College. He failed his eleven-plus and as a youngster he showed promise as a footballer and cricketer and played for Aston Villa, although without making any first-team appearances, between 1950 and 1954. An opening batsman, he also played for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and Warwickshire County Cricket Club at cricket, although, again, without making any first-team appearances. He was a deputy leader of the party on two occasions, and was a minister in the governments of John Tonkin and Brian Burke. Early life Evans was born in Penygraig, Glamorgan, Wales, and came to Australia as a child. Fayne and Evans were an English comedy duo who were popular in the late 1940s and 1950s. They were Tony Fayne (born Anthony Terence Alfred Senington; 18 January 1924–30 November 2009) and David Evans (David Frank Evans; 10 March 1922–14 February 1980). History They were both born in Bristol, and studied together at Bristol Cathedral School. Together, they devised a routine of impersonations, and won a talent contest in 1940, after which they appeared on Jack Payne's BBC radio show, ''Your Company is Requested''. They were called up for military service, and both served in the Fleet Air Arm, but did not meet up again until they were both working as insurance clerks in 1948, and decided to revive their act.
