David Cretney
David Clifford Cretney (born 15 January 1954) is a Manx people, Manx politician. Biography Before going into politics, Cretney was a shop manager (1977–85) and he was also a businessman in the period 1985–2012. He was, until March 2014, Department of Infrastructure (Isle of Man), Minister of Infrastructure in the Isle of Man Government, and had formerly headed the Departments of Department of Community, Culture and Leisure (Isle of Man), Community, Culture & Leisure, Department of Trade and Industry (Isle of Man), Trade & Industry, and Department of Tourism and Leisure, Tourism & Leisure. He was a Member of the House of Keys for the Manx Labour Party, representing Douglas South from 1985. He has been a member of the upper house, the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man, Legislative Council since 2015. The Legislative Council () is the upper house, upper chamber of Tynwald, the legislature of the Isle of Man. The abbreviation "LegCo" is often used. The Isle of Man Post Office (), which formerly used the trading name Isle of Man Post, operates postal collection, ancillary mail services, philatelic goods and delivery services and post office counter services on the Isle of Man. History The Isle of Man's postal service was originally operated by the United Kingdom's General Post Office (GPO), with a daily postal connection with the UK since 1879. In 1966 the UK Government commenced planning to convert the General Post Office into a public corporation, and as part of this process offered each of the Crown Dependencies the opportunity to assume control of the operations of the GPO on their territories. On 18 October 1968, Tynwald decided that they did not wish to take up the offer, but provision was made in the Post Office Act 1969 nonetheless.
