David Conolly
David Conolly is an English writer, director, comedian and actor whose production company, Mansion Pictures, produced two feature-length films, '' Mothers & Daughters''mothersanddaughtersmovie.com and '' The Understudy.'' Early life Conolly was born in Leeds. His father, Michael, worked as a chaplain in a psychiatric hospital. After also initially working in psychiatry, he was selected to join the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. This led to him making his West End debut at age 17. David went on to study performing arts at Leicester Polytechnic. It was here that he directed the Mobil Winning New Play, Woundings, and also won contributions to the National Student Drama Festival with Ode to St Cecilia. Having completed his degree, David began training as an actor at Mountview Theatre School before returning to the West End with ''A Passionate Woman'' and the award-winning ''A Last Bus From Bradford''. Mansion Pictures was established by British husband and wife team Hannah Davis and David Conolly. They also produced drama for the BBC and made the critically acclaimed shorts, ''A Life In a Day'' (nominated for Best Short Film, British Short Film Festival) and ''The Other Side of the Mirror''. Their first feature film, which they co-wrote, produced and directed was '' Mothers & Daughters''. For which they were nominated - The Golden Hitchcock Award for Direction. '' Mothers & Daughters'' was invited to film festivals worldwide in 2004, debuting at Cannes Film Festival then playing at: São Paulo; Montreal, Quebec; Barcelona; Chicago; New York Indie; AFM; The Hamptons; Raindance, and finally the Festival Film Brittanique du Dinard where it was chosen as one of the top six British films of 2004. Stand Up NY is a comedy club located in Manhattan’s Upper West Side on 236 West 78th street. Founded in 1986, the club is one of New York City’s oldest, always featuring diverse lineups of well-known and local comedians. Comedians Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jon Stewart performed here. Past performers at Stand-Up New York include: Louis C.K., Susie Essman, Mike Birbiglia, Lewis Black, Judah Friedlander, John Oliver, Jay Oakerson, Hannibal Buress, Godfrey, Dave Attell, Anthony Jeselnik, Aziz Ansari, and Amy Schumer. Originally owned by then television writer and producer, now Broadway performer Cary Hoffman, the club was bought as it was struggling financially in 2008 by Dani Zoldan and Gabe Waldman, who both frequented the club as teenagers.
