David Briggs (Australian Musician)
David John Briggs AM (born 26 January 1951) is an Australian musician, songwriter and record producer, best known as lead guitarist in the rock band Little River Band between 1976 and 1981, having joined the band when original lead guitarist Ric Formosa left. Professional career In 1976 he joined Little River Band. He wrote their hit single " Lonesome Loser" and co-wrote " Happy Anniversary", and played lead guitar on the albums '' Diamantina Cocktail, Sleeper Catcher, First Under the Wire, Backstage Pass, Live in America'' and '' Time Exposure.'' Briggs also produced the rock band Australian Crawl and co-wrote their single "Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mama" with vocalist James Reyne. He produced Russell Morris' ''Almost Frantic'' album and started Rough Diamond Records with Ross Gardiner, a Melbourne-based music writer, which was distributed through Astor Records and then PolyGram. Little River Band (LRB) are a rock band formed in Melbourne, Australia, in March 1975. The band achieved commercial success in both Australia and the United States. They have sold more than 30 million records; six studio albums reached the top 10 on the Australian Kent Music Report albums chart including '' Diamantina Cocktail'' (April 1977) and '' First Under the Wire'' (July 1979), which both peaked at No. 2. Nine singles appeared in the top 20 on the related singles chart, with " Help Is on Its Way" (1977) as their only number-one hit. Astor Records
Astor Records was an Australian recorded music manufacturer and distributor that operated from the early 1960s to the early 1980s. Astor was the trade name of the consumer electronics manufacturer Radio Corporation Pty. Ltd., a division of Electronic Industries Ltd., which also made Astor radios, radiograms and television sets. The company expanded into record production in mid-1960, and operated its own vinyl record pressing plant in Melbourne. The company's inaugural release was the single " Speak Low"/" Come Closer to Me" by Philippine-born vocalist Pilita Corrales (credited as Pilita). Three of her albums were released on the Astor label: ''I'll Take Romance'', ''This Is Pilita'' and ''Pilita Tells the Story of Love''. Robert James Lee Hawke (9 December 1929 – 16 May 2019) was an Australian politician and trade unionist who served as the 23rd prime minister of Australia from 1983 to 1991.
