David Baker (biochemist)
David Baker (born October 6, 1962) is an American biochemist and computational biology, computational biologist who has pioneered methods to Protein design, design proteins and protein structure prediction, predict their three-dimensional structures. He is the Henrietta and Aubrey Davis Endowed Professor in Biochemistry, an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and an adjunct professor of genome sciences, bioengineering, chemical engineering, computer science, and physics at the University of Washington. He was awarded the shared 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on computational protein design. Baker is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and the director of the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design. He has co-founded more than a dozen biotechnology companies and was included in Time (magazine), ''Time'' magazine's inaugural list of the 100 Most Influential People in health in 2024. Overton Prize
The ISCB Overton Prize is a computational biology prize awarded annually for outstanding accomplishment by a scientist in the early to mid stage of his or her career. Laureates have made significant contribution to the field of computational biology either through research, education, service, or a combination of the three. The prize was established by the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) in memory of a major contributor to the field of bioinformatics and member of the ISCB Board of Directors who died unexpectedly in 2000. Protein design is the rational design of new protein molecules to design novel activity, behavior, or purpose, and to advance basic understanding of protein function. Hannele Ruohola-Baker
Hannele Ruohola-Baker (born December 10, 1959) is a Finnish biochemist. She is a professor of biochemistry and associate director of the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Her research focuses on the molecular biology of stem cells and on the use of ''Drosophila'' (fruit flies) as model organisms for human diseases.
