Dave Trownson
Dave Trownson (born 28 February 1954) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from England. Biography Trownson, born in Urmston, Greater Manchester, began his British leagues career riding a couple of times for Boston Barracudas during the 1973 British League Division Two season after being signed from Belle Vue Aces. The following season he started riding for Boston reserves before securing a season-long loan deal with Berwick Bandits. He enjoyed his time at Berwick and did not want to return to Boston. After riding for Berwick in 1975 and making a few appearances for his new parent club Wolverhampton Wolves, he suffered a miserable 1976 season, struggling to gain selection and then breaking his arm. Trownson began the 1977 National League season with Wolves but soon found a home at Edinburgh Monarchs, who had returned to speedway after a seven-year break. Urmston
Urmston is a town in Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, which had a population of 41,731 at the 2021 Census. Historically in Lancashire, it is 5 miles (8.04672 km) southwest of Manchester city centre. The southern boundary is the River Mersey, with Stretford lying to the east and Flixton to the west. Davyhulme lies to the north of the town centre. Urmston covers an area of 4,799 acres (1,942.08639710976 ha). The town has early medieval origins, and until the arrival of the railway in 1873 was a small farming community. The railway acted as a catalyst, transforming the town into a residence for the middle classes. 1977 National League Season
The 1977 National League was contested as the second division of Speedway in the United Kingdom. Summary Newport had moved down from the British League. Their riders were transferred to Bristol Bulldogs but they acquired new riders and were renamed Newport Dragons. Paisley Lions dropped out so the league had 19 teams, the same as the previous season. Part way through the season, Coatbridge Tigers relocated and changed name to Glasgow Tigers after being kicked out of Cliftonhill. Eastbourne Eagles won the National League title, completing a league and cup double. Eastbournes's star rider was Colin Richardson, who won the Riders' Championship and averaged 10.70 for the season. He was backed up by Mike Sampson, who also surpassed a 10 average and Dave Kennett (8.37 average) and a member of Eastbourne's 1971 winning team. East Of England Arena
The East of England Showground is a large showground area (667,731sqm) located on East of England Way near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England. The Showground is owned by Bellway as of around 2019 and the site currently includes the East of England Arena and Events Centre and a motorcycle speedway stadium. In September 2021, EEAS entered into a land promotion agreement with Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG). The purpose of the agreement was to develop new leisure facilities on the site and further the association with the Anglia Ruskin University. The showground was owned by the East of England Agricultural Society, formed in 1970 by the merger of several agricultural societies.
