Dave Romano
David G. Romano (born June 1, 1940) is a Canadian former curler. He played third on the 1972 Brier Champion team (skipped by Orest Meleschuk), representing Manitoba. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Since 2005, the men's and women's championships have been held in different venues, with Canada hosting one of the two championships every year: the men's championship in odd years, and the women's championship in even years. The 1972 Air Canada Silver Broom was held at the Olympic Eisstadion in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany from March 19–21, 1972. Macdonald Brier
The Tim Hortons Brier, or simply (and more commonly) the Brier (''french: Le Brier''), is the annual Canadian men's curling championship, sanctioned by Curling Canada. The current event name refers to its main sponsor, the Tim Hortons coffee and donut shop chain. "Brier" originally referred to a brand of tobacco sold by the event's first sponsor, the Macdonald Tobacco Company. The Brier has been held since 1927, traditionally during the month of March. The winner of the Brier goes on to represent Canada at the World Curling Championships of the same year. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Orest Meleschuk
Orest B. "The Big O" Meleschuk (born April 11, 1940) is a Canadian former curler of Ukrainian descent. He was one of Manitoba's best curlers during the 1960s and 1970s and has won a number of championships and major bonspiels. His greatest curling triumph came in 1972 when he won the Manitoba, Canadian and World Championships of curling. Meleschuk married Patrica Frances McSherry and they have two children, Sean and Karin. Meleschuk was involved in the first Battle of the Sexes curling match, in which he lost to Vera Pezer's team. Meleschuk currently lives in Selkirk, Manitoba.
