Dave Rock
Rilo Kiley ( ) is an American indie rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1998, the band consists of Jenny Lewis, Blake Sennett, Pierre de Reeder, and Jason Boesel. The group released their debut album '' Take-Offs and Landings'' under Seattle-based independent label Barsuk Records in 2001. After that, they released three additional studio albums and several EPs. In 2007, they were signed with Warner Bros. and subsequently made their major-label debut with the album ''Under the Blacklight''. History Rilo Kiley performed their first concert at Spaceland in Los Angeles in January 1998. Their debut EP, ''The Initial Friend, Rilo Kiley'' (later reissued as ''The Initial Friend EP''), was released in 1999. In 2000, Sennett and Lewis played fictionalized versions of themselves on ABC's drama ''Once & Again'', with the band also performing "The Frug" on the episode. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. Bright Eyes is an American indie rock band founded in Omaha, Nebraska by singer-songwriter and guitarist Conor Oberst. It consists of Oberst, multi-instrumentalist and record producer, producer Mike Mogis, arranger, composer and trumpet and piano player Nate Walcott, and a rotating line-up of collaborators drawn primarily from Music of Omaha#Indie rock music, Omaha's indie music scene. Between 1998 and 2011, the band's albums were released through Saddle Creek Records, a Nebraska-based label founded by Justin Oberst (Conor's brother) and Mogis. ''Give Up'' is the only studio album by American electronic duo the Postal Service, released on February 18, 2003, by Sub Pop Records. The Postal Service was a collaboration between singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard, best-known for his work with indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie, and musician Jimmy Tamborello, who also records under the name Dntel. Gibbard rose to prominence in the early 2000s as frontman of Death Cab, while Tamborello gained a cult following as a pioneer of contemporary glitch music and electronica. The two first collaborated with the song "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan", for Dntel's debut LP, '' Life Is Full of Possibilities'' (2001). ''More Adventurous'' is the third studio album by American indie rock band Rilo Kiley. Released on August 17, 2004 by Brute/Beaute Records, a self-made imprint distributed by Warner Records, it was the band's major label debut. As of June 2007, sales of the album in the United States had exceeded 173,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Song information "Portions for Foxes" references the bible verse . To achieve the vulnerable effect for which the song was intended, Lewis recorded her vocal for "I Never" naked in the studio. "Ripchord" and "It Just Is" were written in response to the death of Elliott Smith. "Accidntel Deth" was produced by Jimmy Tamborello, who is known for his work in The Postal Service and as Dntel (which explains the unusual spelling of the song's title). The album was released by Saddle Creek Records in Omaha, Nebraska, and the aforementioned features show the influence of that studio's associated Omaha Sound. ''Rilo Kiley'', also known as ''The Initial Friend EP'', is the first release by Los Angeles–based rock band Rilo Kiley. It was initially released independently in 1999 under the title ''Rilo Kiley''. It was subsequently re-pressed in 2000 and again in 2001, under the name ''The Initial Friend EP'' with an alternate track-listing and cover. All three releases commonly sell on eBay for between $250–400 and are fairly rare. The recording sessions for the EP were funded by comedian and actor Dave Foley, who was an early fan of the band and had attended their first concert in January 1998. "Frug," which references the 1960s dance of the same name, and "85" were included in the soundtrack to the Christina Ricci film ''Desert Blue'', which led to the band's heightened popularity and eventual signing to a record label.
